If a celebrity goes to the hospital because he or she is tired...
he or she will be diagnosed with "exhaustion."

If you or I go to the hospital because we are tired, the ER doctor would laugh at us, and perhaps call in a mental health expert who will recommend that we be detained for 48 hours for observation.

Where's the fairness in that? :silly:

Do you know any non-celebrity person who was ever diagnosed by an ER doctor as having "exhaustion?"

What is "exhaustion?" I'm not talking about "heat exhaustion," but just the "too tired to carry on" type. What's the criteria for an "exhaustion" diagnosis?

1. Exhaustion for celebrities usually means
Stick 'em in the dryer for 30 days.

2. An example of exhaustion
Edited on Sun Jul-17-05 12:52 PM by Bluzmann57
A couple of weeks ago I worked a 64 hour week, due to monetary needs. It was hot and humid. I was tired. Almost too tired to function, although I did. However, when Saturday night/Sunday morning rolled around, I slept 10 hours uninterrupted. So that, at least in my mind, is exahaustion. And the simple cure for it is sleep.

3. I generally think it means
depression or addiction, both of which are legitimate diagnoses. It just that most regular folks don't have access to funds necessary to seek treatment for these illnesses.

4. I really would have exhaustion if
I went to the hospital, told them I was exhausted, and sat around waiting for them to do anything. I've gone to the ER because I was coughing up blood and having trouble breathing and was made to wait for hours. I want one of those platinum health care cards or whatever they have that gets celebrities pampered at hospitals.

8. Hey, I'm not an old lady!
Well, I'm looking at 40, but I was 20 when Bon Jovi (BJ for short--OMG, I see where the rumor originated :D ) sang hits like "I'm a Cowboy."

I also heard that Richard Gere had this done.

:D :hi:

I was probably 18 or 20 when "I'll be there for you" came out.

Well I thought Richard Gere had his stomach pumped. Wait, those little gerbils didn't gerbil their way to his tummy, did they?

:D

9. In my generation it was Jordan
from New Kids On The Block. Of course that really happened because I know somebody who knew someone whose cousin's aunt's friend's niece was a nurse at the hospital when it happened.

13. Yes! I did see that.
Horrible. When I was about 6 or 7, I split my lip open while playing on a rock. So badly that I needed stiches... I was waiting in the ER about 6 HOURS. Just for a few little stitches! I think by the time I got out of there it was 1 AM, and the incident had happened around 5 that afternoon. :eyes:

15. We have one after-hours clinic here.
Well, it's open all day and stays open until 8 at night. Anytime an emergency comes up, that's where I take my son. He's had stitches there and has been treated for other "emergency" stuff. In and out in an hour.

At the ER, though, like you said, it's a four or five hour wait. Here at our ER, the real emergencies have to wait in line behind the non-emergencies. That's the status of the American health care system, though. :(

23. "Exhaustion" is the PR description, not the Dx.
Generally, the problem is substance abuse. Or some other psychological/physical difficulty.
