Can someone clue me into Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts?

I'm semi-obsessed w/ the song of late. But pretty sure I don't "get" the complete story. Lily is in disguise throughout most of the song, correct? (Is that even true?)

IF she's in disguise, who is Lily in the main body of the song before she gets the dye out of her hair?

(And I know the answer is probably there for the googling. Just wanted to ask my fellow DUers first....)
