I think tourists that don't leave places such as Cancun in the face of a massive storm are freaking stupid. Pardon me, folks...but, if Jim Cantore knew last week your vacation wasn't going to go well...I would have been paying attention.

I think I'll save my summer sympathy for residents who don't have the money or resources to properly prepare.

1. According to NBC Nightly News....

a large part of the problem is that the tourists want to leave, but there aren't enough planes to get all of them out in time. I have no clue what the airport capacity is...but apparently the authorities/airlines are not organizing enough evacuation flights to handle the sheer number of people.

Simply stated, they are stuck.

2. I am feeling so frustrated tonight with news

it's probably just that....but, I just wanted to toss a brick at the screen and yell..."you've known about it for a WEEK!!!!"

Thank God I missed the 60 Minutes show on the (white upper middle class) stay at home moms!!!!

3. People on vacation in a resort...

probably don't pay much attention to the news. The weather is good most days, so why pay attention to that. It was up to the resort owners to inform them of the approaching hurricane...and I am guessing that they were remiss in that.

4. We got stuck once

in the Bahamas with a hurricane coming in. There was no way to get out early so we had to wait for our scheduled flight. The runways were under water but we made it out a day before it got really bad. Sometimes there isn't any way out, not enough planes or not enough warning.
