1. What did you do?
I live here and I'm always interested in what the tourists do when they come.

2. I was very impressed...
I live in Portland and I was very impressed by the size of Seattle....It is indeed a big city and me and my friend who gave me the ride spent much time on the freeways...We stayed in Issaquah but my friend gave me a ride into town and I attended Andy's memorial service...
After it was done I went back to Issaquah but we came back a few hours later...the guy I came up with wanted to see some live music so after a couple of false starts we went to a place called the Funhouse practically underneath the Space Needle...After seeing a group called the Earaches we went back to Issaquah (that floating I-90 bridge kinda creeped me out)...

I could go on and on I suppose, I kept a journal...Seattle is really completely different from Portland!

3. I love Seattle and Portland!
Our honeymoon trip was a wine tour through the PacNW, and it was beautiful.

I haven't been back since being single again... most of my Seattle friends have moved away (is it something I said?!).

Seattle is such a wonderful city; I'd love to live there, or at least find a Seattle girlfriend (hint, hint) ;-) .

Pike Market, the city centre itself, University Distric antique shopping, the art gallery, the glass-smiths... it's such a beautiful place.

Whenever I do get down there I stay at the Vintage Park. Cool, old-style hotel with a daily wine-tasting in the lounge.

4. Seattle is a great city...
but the Week of July 4 the rexcat family went to Portland. My brother lives in West Linn. We liked the market downtown on Sunday. My kids liked the Portland area but I have a bias for Seattle.

5. bias for Seattle is OK...
I in no way mean to criticize one city over another, as a visitor I just wanted to express my opinions here but obviously no one cares about that!

6. I understood your post and no bad intended...
but I have great memories of Seattle and Washington. My dad grew up in Central WA and graduated from UW. We were a military family and when we would return to Washington to see grandparents and other relatives we always had a great time.

Portland is a great city but Seattle will always have a place in my heart!

10. I'm going up to Seattle again next weekend to hang with friends.
Edited on Mon Jul-18-05 12:27 AM by swag
I find the city rather more boring and less corruptly organic and alive than Portland nowadays, particularly since the dual collapse of Grunge and dot.com, but I value the place for my many friends there and the some very good memories, not to mention hopes for fine times to come.

There is always some undiscovered and bubbling smelly smudgepot neighborhood or subculture in Seattle worth looking for.

It's just a less frantic search for such a thing in Portland, whose moldy neighborhoods fair crawl with life and artistic productivity in these times.
