installing new subfloor - i have a question
I came across a layer of brown paper...I tore it out and now I need to know if I should replace it before I nail in the new fiberboard. I am planning on installing laminate tiles from Colortile...I have no idea what I am doing!

Along with the laminate tiles came a thin film of barrier to place on top of subfloor before installing the tiles.

I'll let you know how it turns out...

4. I'm west coast
it is only 10 p.m. here! But yes I came across quite a bit of water and pet damage after tearing up a stinky old carpet. We have only lived here 6 months so it was an older problem...

2. The brown paper was an old school moisture barrier
The new one will work much better.

3. You only need the film between the laminate and the subfloor...
The paper was probably the barrier from whatever was on your floor before.

Are you using a one-piece roll of laminate, cut to size, or are you using a bunch of laminate sections?

8. tap n lock...
it's good stuff. Just be sure to get each piece nice and close... don't rush.

Hint: If you're going to be replacing baseboard molding after you lay the floor, use clear silicone bathroom caulk behind each section of baseboard; it'll make an invisible "skirt" to keep spills and moisture from getting under the floor at the edges.

12. Some people mentioned moisture barriers
But I come from a school that used paper between subfloors to reduce squeaks between the layers. Today you can bypass the paper and reduce the squeaks with adhesives - you know with that liquid-nail sub-floor adhesive stuff.
