So, put me down as a "why?" vote.

It's like blaming Pink Floyd for how many times they played Another Brick in the Wall.

12. how about ... the pathway to more smiles instead of "Root of all evil"

Come Monday

Headin' up to San Francisco
For the Labor Day week-end show
I've got my hush-puppies on
I guess I never was meant for glitter rock and roll
And honey I didn't know
That I'd be missin' you so

Come Monday, it'll be all right
Come Monday, I'll be holdin' you tight
I spent four lonely days in a brown L. A. haze
And I just want you back by my side

Yes, it's been quite a summer
Rent-a-cars and west-bound trains
And now you're off on vacation
Somethin' you tried to explain
And darlin', it's I love you so
That's the reason I just let you go

Come Monday, it'll be all right
Come Monday, I'll be holdin' you tight
I spent four lonely days in a brown L. A. haze
And I just want you back by my side

I can't help it honey
You're that much a part of me now
Remember that night in Montana
When we said there'd be no room for doubt

I hope you're enjoyin' the scen'ry
I know that it's pretty up there
We can go hikin' on Tuesday
With you I'd walk anywhere
California has worn me quite thin
I just can't wait to see you again

Come Monday, it'll be all right
Come Monday, I'll be holdin' you tight
I spent four lonely days in a brown L. A. haze
And I just want you back by my side

28. Then there's the song he should dedicate to Karl Rove
Well I was drivin' down I-95 the other night.
Somebody nearly cut me right off the road.
I decided it wasn't gonna do any good to get mad.
So I wrote a song about him instead.
It goes like this...

Were you born an asshole?
Or did you work at it your whole life?
Either way it worked out fine
'cause you're an asshole tonight.

Yes you're an A S S H O L E...
And don't you try to blame it on me.
You deserve all the credit.
You're an asshole tonight.

You were an asshole yesterday.
You're an asshole tonight.
And I've got a feelin'
you'll be an asshole the rest of your life.

And I was talkin' to your mother
just the other night.
I told her I thought you were an asshole.
She said, "Yes. I think you're right."

And all your friends are assholes
'cause you've known them your whole life.
And somebody told me
you've got an asshole for a wife.

Were you born an asshole?
Or did you work at it your whole life?
Either way it worked out fine
'cause you're an aaaass...hole tonight.

33. That's not him, though
it's wrongly credited to him on various download and lyrics sites. It was written and originally recorded by Mac McAnally, who was a member of Jimmy's band. Jimmy may have since performed it but I'm no expert on his setlists and, in light of the massive misattribution of this song to Buffett, I wouldn't bet on it.

40. Add Kip Attaway and David Alan Coe to the list of possible authors
But Jimmy Buffet does sing it. He's just not even close to the only one who does.

This link concludes Fred "August" Campbell wrote and recorded it in 1983.

70. Always loved "Who's The Blond Stranger," at least partly
because of my time and place when it came out. I've since listened to a lot of his stuff and, though I've never seen him live, I love the tone of his songwriting (yeah, I spent a lot of time in the Keys and on tropical islands, so that helps) and all that. Lots of them, perhaps because of all my time spent on the ocean and in proverbial tropic ports, speak pretty clearly to me.

Loved his "Joe Merchant" book, too, and the dude is generally cool: Save the Manatee Club. He's also a good businessman, somehow, so good for him.
