For all you music junkies, especially if you're around 40, what vinyl records did you love that have NEVER been available on CD? (To your knowledge.) Here's a partial list of mine off the top of my head:
- T-Bone Burnett: Trap Door, and Proof Through the Night - Marshall Crenshaw: UK Remix - Dire Straits: Twisting by the Pool EP - Ben Vaughn Combo: The Many Moods of, and Beautiful Thing - LeRoi Brothers: Forget about the Danger, and Lucky Lucky Me - B-52s: Party Mix (on edit: it IS available) - Michael Smotherman: S/T - Hilly Michaels: Calling All Girls
Almost all of these came out around the dawn of the CD when only the bigger and best selling artists came out on CD as well as vinyl. A lot of these are EPs, too, which was a phase that the record companies went through to offer "introductory pricing" on new artists, etc.
I do have hope that with iTunes, some of these may see the light of day as downloads. Verve is using iTunes to reissue a bunch of their old catalog that was never released as CD. Makes huge amounts of sense -- once they're remastered and ripped, no production cost!
What are some of yours?
