Don't boycott War of the Worlds because Cruise is a Scientologist

Boycott War of the Worlds because it's the worst movie ever made.

Ishtar was a masterpiece compared to WOTW.

Heaven's Gate was a work of cinematic genius.

And Attack of the Killer Green Tomatoes was a timeless classic compared to WOTW.

Even Troma films are better than that piece of shit, and they're bad on purpose.

My wife decided we should have a night out before I drive up to Greensboro to learn all about doors and windows, and she dragged me to War of the Worlds. Oh, she owes me for that one. As we walked out of the theatre (which contained at least twelve moviegoers obviously dragged in by this review: "The driving force is the mad scientist known for perfecting eye-popping, seat-gripping spectacles that summer audiences devour. Underneath the firepower lurks the maturing filmmaker eager to comment in time of war on our country's responses to foreign threats.") she's muttering "what was I thinking?"

Oh yeah. The 14-year-old son is a freeper and the 10-year-old daughter wears a ton of makeup.

and Heaven's Gate (as a native Idahoan it's in the state constitution: you will see Heaven's Gate and like it*)

and Waterworld.

* A very large part of Heaven's Gate was shot in Wallace, Idaho. This was a huge thing when they made it back in the 1970s--movie stars didn't live in North Idaho and fly to Hollywood to work like they do now, so no one up there had ever seen a live movie star before. Anyway, before they made this movie Wallace's downtown was this dingy little small-town downtown that looked like it was built in 1841 and last painted in 1842. Which, of course, made it exceptionally cheap to turn into a movie set--just repaint all of the buildings and you're there.

Now Wallace uses its "immaculately restored old-time downtown" as a tourist attraction, and it's been good to them. Well, that and the Whorehouse Museum.

We saw it at the drive-in (my favorite). Maybe the atmosphere was different, but we had fun. And, just to add, I really have never liked Cruise. It was WOTW and The Longest Yard.

Sorry you thought it sucked so bad. But, if it helps, SSpeilberg and Cruise are donating Democrats.

6. No, really, it was truly high-quality entertainment...

Between the screaming kids, the lame explosions and the thoroughly bogus ending (aliens catch cold and drop dead) I don't know which to praise more highly.

Oh, the little asshole thing the aliens use to eat you is kinda fun. I didn't pay movie theatre prices to watch a dick like Tom Cruise get sucked into a giant asshole, though.

5. I hate Tom Cruise as an actor, but I LOVED War of The Worlds.

I loved, loved, loved it sooo much that I have seen it 6 times already. And will probably see it again. I can hardly wait to buy the DVD.

22. Robin Hood: Men In Tights was fine art compared to this

I mean, come on. Where else can you see a Jewish Friar Tuck?

You know what was the REAL problem with Men in Tights? He couldn't work Hitler into it. All Mel Brooks movies contain two important characters: Mel Brooks and Adolf Hitler. He even got Hitler into Blazing Saddles! And without Hitler, Mel Brooks movies don't work. (He couldn't work him into "Life Sucks" either, so that movie should have been named "This Film Sucks.")

11. I am thankful

that I did not spend (waste) any money on this film.

I down loaded the movie a few days ago ... with so many people here on DU praising the movie, I expected It to be a really good movie, but I was very disappointed with It.

The original movie was MUCH better.

The worst ever? No. A top 100 good one? Give me a break. The least memorable movie, though, I have seen in years, and that's a surprise, as even really bad ones can be memorable (Titanic, The English Patient - shudder). Can't believe Spielberg ran out of creativity and story telling ability. Rent the 1953 version with Gene Barry; it's much superior.

21. No, it just fucking sucked

The scene where Tom Cruise and his two obstinate children stole the minivan was THE WORST scene in the whole shitty movie. The overpainted girl is sitting in the back seat screaming "I Want Mom" at the top of her fucking lungs, and the freeper boy is sitting in the front seat asking if the aliens are terrorists.

"No, they come from somewhere else" said Tom Cruise.
"Oh, like Europe?" said the freeper son.

I wanted to just walk up to the screen and slap the living dogshit out of the three of them: the girl for being a brat, the boy for being a freeper, and Tom Cruise for agreeing to be in this piece of shit.

My brother read me one that said that "War of the Worlds" made "Independence Day" look like "Citizen Kane."
