My poor little doggie is getting neutered tomorrow

never recovered and 3 days later died. Be aware of heart conditions, sryingomyelia, and ear problems. Gracie had Otitis Media, a middle ear infection and went in to have that taken care of.

We love the Cavalier spirit and are thinking of getting another one. They are so expensive, but are such loving, gentle little friends. Cherish yours every day, okay?

I love that little guy. I just took him out for a long walk. I let him go wherever he wanted (within reason); let him sniff whatever he wanted for how ever long he wanted. he got a kick out of that. Sorry about your Gracie.

The whoopla is projection. A spaying is equivalent to a total hysterectomy, a neuter is sorta like a vasectomy run amok.

I assisted the vet who neutered the 90 pound hound. Was interesting. Only problem was the vet gave the dog too big a dose of whatever knocked him out. He was way out too long. We could've sold tickets to me and a neighbor woman trying to haul him into the house off her flatbed truck with HER Golden Retriever 'helping' cuz he was most concerned about his young pal.

Fortunately, the 90 Pound Hound was not full grown and a mere 82 pounds at them time... still, it was like trying to handle 82 pounds of jello in a large, furry bag.

Havocdad slept on the floor with him that night, in case he started to come out of it and was confused. Confused does not even begin to cover the state of things for a good 24 hours.

Have some old towels handy in case of, um, oopsies from either end while the dog comes around if you bring him home still groggy.

He'll be fine in very short order. And a better pet too.

My male toy poodle, Scooter, is very hyper. He's been overly excitable for years. I gave him to my mother who has more space for him and we were discussing if having him neutered might calm him down. Why is your dog getting 'fixed'? :hi:

Neutering him will not only make him happier (less sexually frustrated), but will also provide him with the liklihood that he won't develop certain diseases associated with being intact. Plus, any aggression he may have will likely dissipate, he won't "mark" territory around the house, and he'll be much less likely to hump the legs of your guests.

Plus, he won't be contributing to the 6 million animals we euthanize in our shelters every single year.

Jake would thank you, I think. I know that I do.

I know it's hard, but it really is better for him in the long term. Unaltered dogs are the cause of the vast majority of bites in this country every year. Unaltered dogs are vastly more likely to be lost to "the road." Unaltered juvenile dogs are much more difficult to train (because of their obsession with sex drive.) Unaltered male dogs live (statistically) significantly shorter lives than altered male dogs.

(If you need stats, feel free to ask--my dh has been a dog trainer for 10 years.)


For every puppy that *your* dog doesn't help create, another pup will be rescued from an animal shelter. This country destroys millions of perfectly wonderful, adoptable animals every year; please don't add to this huge problem.

Give Jake a scratch for me--He'll be okay. Really.

but it doesn't make it any easier. Also having the vet put in a "microchip" (spaying/neutering is part of the contract we entered into when we bought Jake. The breeder is very particular).

For buying from a reputable breeder who requires mandatory neutering/spaying of their pups. If one decides to buy instead of adopt, it is definitely imperative that it be from a reputable breeder, which it sounds like you got.

Microchipping is also excellent and well worth the investment (they're usually under $50 I think, no?).

Spaying and neutering all your pets is THE most responsible part of being an owner. Your gorgeous guy is so lucky to have you as their "person"! :)
