Mine is, and it's getting worse. As they cut clerical and technical jobs through attrition, they've added three administrative positions, and these aren't secretaries, either.

What used to be a great place to work has become pretty grumpy lately. Once very contented, productive employees are grousing in the "lounges," lunchroom, and the nearby bars.

4. The worst part is, I'm a city employee. If the taxpayers knew,

they'd go batshit--and they'd be right to do so.

This is a service very widely used and wildly popular with the public. It won't be long until the public notices the slowdown in production.

Our DINO mayor won't give a damn until then, either.

Better the public lets them know, IMHO.

When it comes to my city department, the public isn't shy at all.

3. Not yet, but the "deanlings" are coming

I work at a university and so far we just have average amt of administratium. But... we were told that our dept chairs were soon to assume more admin. duties and become "deanlings". I kid you not, that is the official term the state university system is using/pushing. blech puke

5. Similar problem, but different circumstances

I am a public school teacher and our problem is that we do not have enough teachers for all the students. My district is growing at a phenomenal rate (approximately 250 new students each year) and we do not have enough teachers to keep the student/teacher ratio in accordance with district guidelines (class sizes are supposedly capped at twenty-five). Last year I had a class of twenty-eight in a room (actually a converted storage closet) which was crowded with twenty students, let alone twenty-eight.

The stresses involved with being a teacher, not to mention the low salary, discourages so many talented people from this profession.

The ratio of management to workers (or, administrators to teachers is 7 administrators and 160 teachers) and we desperately need more teachers.

I did my student teaching stint and as a substitute, then dropped out.

As pissed as I am about my job, I never lose sleep over it. In my brief teaching career, I lost plenty of sleep.

Strength, my friend--you need all you can get.

10. Thanks for your support

Luckily I only have seven more years until retirement; I think I can hang on until then.
As far as the stress and loss of sleep goes, my doctor provides me with a prescription for valium.
