Our 'lectricity just flashed |

off for about 30 seconds. Right in the middle of Keith. And of course I was also kicked off of DU.
The guy is here installing our new central air unit. Is this a bad omen?

If he's messing with your electricity, I'd unplug the computer until he's done. Power surge could fry your system.

My ear's been itchin all night. I knew it!
Hubby just came in and told me not to fret, everything is under control. Asked what was everybody talkin about on DU tonight. So he is obviously trying to distract me from major chaos in my backyard.
This whole air conditioner deal has been kind of a trauma. I am just a bit nervous it's too good to be true that I may be sleeping in air conditioned comfort tonight.
Please keep your fingers crossed for me and I will let you talk about me all you want - hell, I will even participate.

13. You'd better hope that the air works! |
|
They are calling for 100+ weather in the next few days (according to the blurb on tv just a few minutes ago).

That is why we decided to put a crowbar on our wallet and buy the damn central air unit.

We were going to have a picnic at the park for DFA this weekend. I've already sent out emails telling everyone to call it off because of the weather. I just don't want all of our children out in this heat. I'm afraid that one of them would get sick.

My hubby is a maintenance guy and he bought the unit wholesale and paid a HVAC friend to come and install it. (Hence, the reason I was a little nervous.)
The whole deal was less than $1000. Home Depot wanted more than that for just the unit.

20. You really got a great deal! |
|
I looked into them a few years ago and it was pretty pricey (I was thinking about buying a house that needed many renovations). Thank goodness the place I'm at right now has one already.

21. My hubby never pays retail price for anything |
|
It drives me nuts though. Like with this air conditioning deal - our unit went out 2 years ago. So he went out and got window units for a couple rooms and bragged about our low 'lectric bill. Then last week he asked me why the house was so messy and I said it's too hot to clean it. Next day, he buys this central unit.
And am I going to clean the house now? :)

22. I hate paying retail myself. |
|
But window units can sometimes run more expensive than central-especially if your landscaping isn't very good (not enough shade around the house). I prefer the central air overall-it seems like the window units never cool enough.

23. We closed off part of our house |
|
and put the window units in just a few rooms. So we stayed cool but it was really a temporary solution.
And if you know anyone who wants to buy a window unit, I have several for sale now.

I was thinking about taking them to school. We have several air conditioned classrooms - because the teacher bought a window unit.

26. That might be a better plan. |

Take at least one to school for the classroom. The others I would consider advertising online or in the paper-especially this week!

8. You need a heavy duty surge suppresor w/ battery backup. |
|
AKA a UPS (Univeral Power System). Even the shitty compy I'm using now is attached to an APC (the brand name) w/3 surge ports; 3 surge+30 minute or so battery backup ports; a cable port and a telephone wire port.
