First off he was robbed of an Oscar. But secondly, Ive been watching re-runs of his show "30 Days". Just saw the one about living on minimum wage. Scary shit. $551 just to walk into an emergency room, $40 for a $1.00 ace bandage. Un fucking real. He deserves an Emmy.

5. We need universal health care

I've always felt that way, but never as strongly as I did after watching tonight's show. At one point he looked at the camera and asked what low income people who don't have health care do. I just kind of sat there and said to myself "they die". Thats what they do. Often well before they should.

He talked to one guy who worked a shitty temp job like he did, 22, who had 4 kids. I can't fathom how they exist.

If I didn't have med coverage, my meds would cost in the neighborhood of $3,000 a month.

We have to get universal medical coverage, period. Too many companies don't provide medical coverage because of the cost.

I'm sure glad I didn't get f'ed up when I was younger and had no coverage. We need to help the people not so lucky. Too bad this admin doesn't give a shit...

I've run into so many people with severe medical problems and no way to deal with them.

It pisses me off every time I run into a wounded / discharged vet who has to wait a year to get any help from the VA hospital system. To think that fucking bush sends these people to Iraq, they get hurt, and then he under funds the VA system by a billion dollars. Fuck him!

11. $40 for an Ace Bandage?

How can they get away with that?

I was hearing on the radio today about a charity that got started in response to the fact that there are millions of people who are among the "working poor" and raising families. The woman they mentioned made $10/hr and had a baby girl. She didn't qualify for benefits but of course didn't make near enough to buy all she needed for herself and the baby.

Enter Baby Basics, a non-profit volunteer organization that assists the working/near poor of South Boston. Their mission statement is as follows: We believe that early intervention with infants is one of the best ways to maximize their potential to thrive. And we recognize that diapers are a constant, expensive necessity. By providing these children with diapers, we are ensuring that the need for hygienic essentials, from birth to age three, is met. We also provide their families, who are struggling to make ends meet but have incomes too high to qualify for federal and state subsidies, with a supportive safety net from welfare and the opportunity to succeed....

I applaud programs like this that assist the working poor. People who sometimes work multiple jobs, yet still fail to make ends meet. People who will never own a new car, let alone a five-bedroom home with 3.5 baths.

And I agree that Morgan Spurlock doesn't get enough credit. In a world where most reality shows are vapid groups of people stabbing one another in the back over a wad of cash, he brings us serious issues. When the television news is bringing us yet another story about celebrity divorces and catfights Spurlock delves into poverty, religious bigotry and homophobia. Who needs the evening news when we have Morgan Spurlock?

16. Poor people get shafted because politicians pass laws that let them

Those laws get passed because corporations pad the pockets of politicians in order to get those laws passed. MBNA donated a wad of money to the Rethugs so the law it wanted would get passed (the one making it much harder for individuals to declare bankruptcy). The Rethugs got richer, MBNA will get richer, the poor will get poorer--but who cares about the poor except the poor and bleeding hearts anyway. :sarcasm:

For the first time in my life, I am truly scared about what is happening to our country. I didn't join the Army just to come back to a country that is rapidly loosing its' freedoms. I swore to protect the Constitution from ALL enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC. God I am pissed!

It is sad when the enemy turns out to be the elected officials who are supposed to be public servants. I think somewhere along the way they forget they are supposed to be serving the electorate, not corporations, televangelists, assorted rich agenda pushers and themselves.
