Town Approves Pigeon Coop For Mike Tyson
<snip>

PHOENIX (Reuters) - Boxer Mike Tyson's best bird buddies are getting a new home.

A $12,000 pigeon coop that will provide Tyson's pets with 100 square feet of air-conditioned comfort was given the go-ahead on Tuesday by officials in the posh Phoenix suburb of Paradise Valley, Arizona.

The coop will be built behind a nearly one-acre (0.4-hectare) residence Tyson recently bought there.

Town officials last month halted construction of the coop after a neighbor complained it was being built without permission. An application for a permit was then filed.

Officials said there is nothing on the town's books limiting the number of birds a homeowner can have on the property. Tyson plans to house 85 to 100 birds.

The troubled ex-heavyweight champion's love for pigeons is well documented. Tyson gained a reputation as a fighter while growing up in New York after pummeling a bully who killed one of his pigeons, according several accounts of his career.

Last month, Tyson made an unannounced visit to a Phoenix City Council subcommittee to argue against a proposal that would limit residential properties to 40 birds.

"They're pretty harmless," Tyson was quoted as saying in The Arizona Republic. "I don't understand why people would want to get rid of pigeons. They don't bother no one."

Tyson could not be immediately reached for comment.

1. I got lost in Paradise Valley before
Edited on Wed Jul-20-05 09:06 AM by Champ
I was being a man trying to show my girlfriend's mom where the Paradise Valley hospital is, thought this one street would take it straight up there since it was locating on this street. No it went up this hill through all these million dollar homes, ended up reaching a dead end. I kept saying if you go here, we should hit here and be able to take there up. Her mom said, why don't we just ask someone? I said no, you should be able to go there up to there. She kept following my advice and we ended up getting more lost and she began to get infuriated with me. Eventually she asked someone, even afterwards I still acted like I knew where I was going. :crazy:

4. Getting that approval was probably harder than his last fight.
The town too tough approve. Getting a mailbox approved in that town is a lesson in back-biting, dilletants that run a "town" that has no real business, except for photo tickets and 400,000 teardowns.

The "town" is actually very small, with no center in the traditional sense, just massive home after more garish and massive home. The town council made up of the usual suspects; rich waspy professionals that sends its edicts out ocassionaly on their very successfull goal to keep Scottsdale and Phoenix at bay, which bookend the town of the vulgar negative edge swimming pool rich.

They have the most cells phones, but do not want towers, people have to pass through the town, mountains being as they are, but they don't like people driving through.
