I truly fucking give up. I can no longer deal with the emotional toll that searching for a job takes. I didn't get three of the jobs that I wanted, and I am just every possible emotion. I can't imagine why I can't seem to get ANYTHING. I think that they should say at the interview "Well, you have no chance of getting this, so don't even fucking bother to wait by the phone". Instead of telling me "You will hear from us on Wednesday morning. I think this went really well".

This whole thing is just soul-crushing. I am exhausted. This is by far the most difficult thing I have ever gone through, and I have gone through some really fucked-up and tragic shit. I can't temp anymore. I can't retail anymore. I just can't do this anymore! One would think by process of elimination, after sending out more than 200 resumes that I would get SOMETHING! FUCK!

I know you don't want a pat on the back and a "there, there", so I won't bother. But I will tell you that, after feeling EXACTLY the way you're describing, with a family of 5 , I finally got a job just over a year ago. So keep on keeping on. One day it will finally break your way.

Meantime, if you know anyone at any company hiring, by all means, get them to walk your resume to the hiring manager. No special favors required, just someone saying, take a look at this resume. The hand-delivered resume by someone already in the company is worth a great deal, in my opinion.

10. I know what you are feeling.

I have been looking for a job for over 2 years. It's very frustrating. A lot of ads I've seen are just "hooks" to get you to sign up for a temp or employment agency. And, a lot of companies really don't have any openings, but will interview as though they are as a way of "putting out feelers" to see what type of people they could hire if they needed to. A total waste of my time. And, to add insult to injury, I heard bush say once that if you were unemployed you should become self employed -- you should become an entrepreneur. Doing what? Cutting grass, shoveling snow, street walking? And then the news reports that the economy is in great shape. What world do these people live in?

I truly know how that is. I hate filling out job applications. I swear that if I had a dollar for every job application I have filled out, I would not need to work, because I could retire on that money. And I can count the jobs I have gotten from them on the thumbs of one hand.

My favorites are the jobs I apply for from an ad, and later find out that there was no job. They had somebody they were hiring and were required to place an ad. I just applied for a job that is the same as I have now, only it pays about $2.50 an hour less and does not have health insurance, and I did not even get an interview. I "love" it when I apply for a job, do not get an interview and then they are advertising for the same job five months later. I'm like, ha ha, you hired somebody who didn't work out. Sort of a bitter satisfaction.

That is what I like about temp agencies though. You fill out their forms and they will get you a job. I do not understand why more places do not hire their temps though. It is a good way to find out what kind of worker someone is and they definitely have experience.

they can let a temp go just before health insurance would kick in and just before a raise would come up. It's a way for the company to save money.

We all suffer from these repercussions but when it comes right down to the bottom line of not being able to eat/live/create/communicate effectively, in essence we are all prisoners of this shit. Man, I am so sorry that it has all come to this. Why the hell have all our tech jobs gone to the toilet and yet that is what they were tooting the horns about years ago as the corporations began their slow migration to the outsource crap. Our workers need retraining was the bait they threw out.....giving severance pay to factory workers to be "retrained" for what the hell for? I understand, my friend, and all of us could be in your shoes. It truly stinks.

I was a victim of this myself, went back to school, got BS in CS, made a good living for a few years, and was totally sold out by the Clinton Admin. Yes it was the Clinton Whitehouse that, as usual, sold us out to the corporations because they were upset about how much money they had to pay us.
Of course BushCo expanded it and made a bad situation worse, but this isn't a repug - dem issue, it's a corporations vs. The People issue.
Epilogue;
I was unemployed for over 2 years, I stopped counting resumes at about 1300, got almost 100 1st interviews, 73 2nd interviews, and 69 3rd interviews, before finally starting my own business in another, unrelated, field. Being a highly qualified, expert in your field is now a huge liability to employers (noticed how shitty software has become?).

My dad was unemployed at 56.... took 2 years to get a job and he looked countrywide, flew everywhere and was lucky that a gas station didn't think he would leave.. he worked there for like 5 months...

But my dad NEVER quit. Everyone was like.. do somehting else, look for somethign different, but he is in the job he wanted.

I myself have been told I am overqualified... this current job was temp and I wasn't the first choice for my overqualification but the girl they chose quit. My company only hires temp and always converts to perm.. they're out there....

It REALLY sucks. But perseverance does pay off, there is some little company that you are perfect for.... and my dad's job came from monster.com...
