I'm getting Direct TV as we speak.
Luckily I'm at work and the other half has to deal with the install.

But he's called me every 10 minutes asking questions.

No mo CABLE!!

6. Our cable sucked
The building was not wired correctly for cable and we had the main input came out of our hall closet and when we put in tile we couldn't run the cables under the tile. We would have to cut holes in the wall and run the cables. It was a mess.

7. Oh well, too late now.
I wanted to get Dish via SBC but they no longer would install into multi unit buildings. Plus the rates for Direct TV were better.

15. I don't know anything about DirectTV's service, but...
Edited on Wed Jul-20-05 08:27 PM by I Have A Dream
they are the only company on Glenn Beck's list of sponsors that stopped advertising on the Glenn Beck radio show after he discussed on the air how he wanted to kill Michael Moore.

They at least deserve kudos for that!

4. I had nothing but trouble with DirectTV
Edited on Wed Jul-20-05 06:20 PM by hippiechick
... their installation was horrible & their customer service is even worse (30-40 minutes on hold is customary).

And I refuse to pay Comcast's bs rates, so I am presently only dealing with what's on the regular telly (mostly the public tv station).

:hi: RonnyK !!! Good Luck !!!

10. The guy that installed was great.
We ordered on Monday and they were here today.

Anything is better than Adelphia. Comcast is just as bad too, huh?

22. Comcast's service is better, but their prices are ridiculous ....
Sounds like you got a better 'subcontractor' to do your DirectTV installation. The 1-horse company that did mine laid one wire in through my patio door, so I couldn't completely close it ... not even in rain or snow ... and ran the other wire up the outside wall and POKED A HOLE IN MY BEDROOM SCREEN to run it thru my bedroom ... again leaving the window un-closable.

Of course after a few months of trying to close the windows as much as possible when the weather called for it, the wires frayed and I lost service.

The subcontractor company was not listed in the phone book, and when I called DirectTV customer service, after waiting nearly an hour on hold to talk to a real person, they said there was nothing they could do about it because they didn't have their own techs.

It was a total disaster.

I hope yours works out ALOT better !!! :loveya:

25. Sounds like a mess.
This guy we had new his stuff. He did a clean job with drilling any holes to attach the dish and run the cables.

23. I think that Murdock does own it (or at least part of it).
I think that it was just considered to be a smart business decision to stop the advertising. (I'm surprised more of the big named advertisers didn't follow suit.) However, it does show that complaining about things like the Michael Moore incident can make a difference.

At least DirecTV did the right thing in this particular instance.

21. Al Gore's new cable feed will be on DirecTV
I will wait and see on that but:

I have direcTV and like it vs cable, as it is with TV which most of it sucks
but I do enjoy the Sundance channel, Independent Film channel, link tv, bbc america, CBC news, turner classic movies, and others. The price I paid for cable was more for less channels.

They block the signal. :grr:

Of course, I ADORE thunderstorms, so I really don't mind at all.

That should satisfy your thirst for what they have been keeping out of the news.
