Massive Shark Caught Off Vineyard
Contestant Misses Deadline By 6 Minutes

POSTED: 10:21 am EDT July 20, 2005
UPDATED: 12:41 pm EDT July 20, 2005

OAK BLUFFS, Mass. -- It wasn't too little, but it was too late.

Fishermen who hauled in a massive 1,100 pound tiger shark off Massachusetts this past weekend failed to capture first place in the monster shark derby on Martha's Vineyard.

Justice served against the man eaters!!!

5. Thass one big-ass fish, but I hate...
to see it killed just because it's a big-ass fish.

Even if it is a maneater.

8. I wonder how old it was, being that big

It would be great if they could figure out some other way to have a contest besides killing it.

I don't think I've seen one that big hanging up before. :scared:

22. They do something similar with shark vertebrae
but they don't have a fixed 1 ring/yr ratio liike trees do, there are different ratios of rings/yr for different species.

9. I wish people would just LEAVE THEM ALONE.

They serve a purpose, and if we would just pay attention, humans would never be threatened by them. Can you imagine how many years it took to grow to that size, and someone kills it for a "contest"..

We are a wicked species.. We kill just for the fun of it :puke:

15. I agree too... that picture made me angry.
At least eat the shark... but they won't. They will probably stuff it and mount it on a wall... a very big wall. :eyes:
