If we lived in a sane society
aware of our place in the world, in touch with our surroundings and our environment, it would be noted in the "news" that the London bombings occurred on the New Moon and the Full Moon.

3. I guess I don't understand your point.
The moon phase on 7/7 was what it was, waxing crescent, and it cannot be two phases at once. If recognizing an objective fact makes my thinking black and white, then guilty as charged.

13. the full moon
is on the 15th day following the new moon. There are 14 days seperating them, and they occur on the fifteenth day. The new moon was on Wednesday, July 6. The next new moon will be on Friday, August 5. Look it up. Think of it logically, does a full moon happen on the same day of the week every month? you don't have a full moon or a new moon every other thursday.

glad to be of service. I still want to know why this would be at all relevant, were it a correct supposition in the first place.

seriously. just flip through and check, do all full moons happen on the same day of the week? if it was 14 days, they would. but they don't. ergo, it can't be 14 days.

if something happens every two weeks, then it's on the same day of the week, time after time, in perpetuity. Every two weeks, I go to happy hour with some friends. Wednesday. every other wednesday, the month changes, the year changes, but wednesday stays the same. the moon don't operate that way.

To the degree that the moon is visible from Earth, it is completely illuminated during the full phase. At any given time, only half of the moon is illuminated, just like the Earth.

29. Exactly zero.
The first two groups of astronauts selected by NASA, the Mercury Seven and the Gemini Nine, were required to be military test pilots with many hours of high performance aircraft flight time. War experience was preferred. Hardly any women qualified at the time. There were a few women test pilots left over from WW2, but they were not at the pinnacle of their careers the way the selected candidates were. By the time Apollo was flying, the Gemini Nine astronauts were at the top of the rotation for command with astronauts selected from later groups in support positions. The tird and fourth astronaut groups were not necessarily test pilots, but the extensive high-performance aircraft experience was still a requirement. This is the kind of experience that one can only get in the military which at the time excluded women from combat roles. Even civilians like Neil Armstrong and Russ Sweickart had extensive military experience. During LBJ's tenure, efforts were made by the administration to put a Black astronaut in the rotation. I forgot his name, but he was an X-15 pilot for the airforce. NASA resisted saying that the program was too important and too dangerous for anyone to be accepted without going throught the rigorous regular selection process.
