Hey, Seattle. Restaurant and bar questions.

1. I have a lunch date for Monday. I want to be within fairly easy striking distance of the railroad station so I can catch my train home in time. I'm thinking the Alibi Room, which I like, but maybe I want to try something new. Any suggestions for downtown or even Capitol Hill for a decent sit-down lunch with wine? I would go with Pink Door, but it's closed Mondays. I'd go to Cyclops, but it's over in Belltown. Obv. I'm a sucker for shit that's barely post-trendy. Thanks in advance.

2. For reasons beyond my control, I'm staying at the fucking Silver Cloud Inn University Sunday night. Is there any place for a decent beer or slurp nearby? I know that fucking University Village is nearby, but I don't really want to go to a fucking mall unless it is very unmallesque. Any decent pubs around there? I can walk a ways. Should I walk to Fremont for my slurp? Digame!

1. I didn't see the lunch menu, but a Seattle-ite recommended the Rosebud.

It's on Madison in Capitol Hill. I had brunch there Sunday, and it was quite good. A nice date place, too, I think.

2. Troiani, on Third Avenue is pretty good

it's on the 1000 block of Third Avenue. Italian, I like it quite a bit.

There is the Ram in the University Village, though I don't particularly care for it (it's a brewpub.) It's okay, and the bar is better than the restaurant, but I can't really recommend it. If you can get to Fremont, do so - much better place to hang out for beers.

5. Well, here are a couple of suggestions:

Over on the other side of the university is where most of the "action" is going to be in the U-district at least, although for some freakish reason, all but the bars and New China Express close amazingly early. If you're looking for a Rathskeller like experience, the College Inn pub (university and 40th) is right up your alley. Located further north, the Irish Emigrant is also pretty good, though it has been suffering from an infestation of frat boys lately, that's around university and 50-something-th

and the Irish Emigrant is good too. I don't go to the U-District much, obviously! Still and all, for a University area, the U-District is pretty lacking in a night life. Every time I'm over there, I am glad I didn't go to school at U-Dub.
