Do you give your cat "Revolution"

for heart worm and fleas? I usually give my cats a chewable heart worm medication. I went to the vet's office to pick up a year's supply for one of my cats, and I was informed that they don't carry the heart worm med. I usually get them. Now, they only carry "Revolution" which is a heart worm and flea combination that goes on their skin. I've never given my cats anything for fleas. They are indoor cats and have never gotten fleas, so I've never worried about it. It bothers me that the vet took away my right to choose plus it cost $40 more. (and I told them that.) I feel my cats will be taking something for fleas they don't really need.
If you give your cats "Revolution", are you satisfied with it?

I work for a veterinarian-

I also have an indoor cat, and live in NC--heartworm territory.

Personally, I have never given my cats anything for HW prevention; however, the dog gets the monthly pills...plus she goes outside.

Ask your doctor for a written prescription for Heartgard for Cats--and then go get it filled at another vet clinic.

Also, if your vet is reputable, s/he should refund you for any unused tubes of Revolution.

and the signs were up all over the place for the Heartguard for cats. Check around. I think you'll find a profit motive instead of truth.

How can it be not made anymore? Petsmart has this cheap clinic where they give vaccinations and give out Heartguard. My poor cat is having a hard time eating it though, he keeps spitting it out. But it's definitely being made. Your vet must be pulling your leg.

I only give them dry cat food--but once a month they get a treat. I'll check with Petsmart.

ask your vet for a prescription so you can buy it online. If he/she refuses, I'd think seriously about finding a new vet.

(Oh, and some states require a vet to give you a prescription if you ask for it. Check, yours may be one of them.)

13. That's dangerous if they're selling it without a heartworm test

I don't know about cats but you can kill a dog by giving them heartworm preventative when they are hw positive. That's why I said to get a prescription. That will show that it's ok for the animal to take it.
