Police investigators enter Nanja Town following the accident on Thursday.A female worker was trapped inside a haunted house attraction at Tokyo's Namco Nanja Town theme park and suffered serious injuries after equipment malfunctioned, officials said Thursday.
The worker, Yumiko Watanabe, 29, was examining part of the "Jigoku Ryokan" (Hell's Inn) attraction at Nanja Town on Thursday morning before it opened, when a lid on a replica bath in the attraction suddenly closed on the upper half of her body, trapping her.
She was taken to a hospital, but remains unconscious in serious condition. Police are investigating the cause of the accident, suspecting that professional negligence was involved.
Investigators said that the equipment Watanabe was examining usually reacted to sensors handed to visitors at the entrance to the attraction. The sensors made the lid open for 13 seconds with air pressure, during which time a ghost would spring out.
