Do you ever play a song over and over again just because
of the mood you find yourself in.......

Tonight it is Neko Case..... I Wish I Was The Moon....

Such ache, heartfelt display of lonelyness that I just can't get it out of my head.....

I have had friends and relatives fade out of my life, as I am sure all of you have had as well, and sometimes, sometime you just need to take a moment and think of all the good times you have had in your life, all the sadness, all the truimphs, all the turmoil, all the love and all the hate and just say

thank God I'm alive today........

One more time for Neko and the one's who have gone away.....

6. All the time
It comes and goes.

I did this to "Relative Ways" by Trail Of Dead.

I did it to "Sick Of Myself" by Matthew Sweet.

I do it to Yes songs on a yearly basis.

I've done it too many times to even think about listing them all.

I've been doing it to "Comfortably Numb" since Live 8.

I've done since I was a child, starting with "Kawliga" by Hank Williams.

It is a good thing.

B-)

9. Indeed I do
A few weeks ago I listened to the Twin Peaks FWWM soundtrack at least a dozen times. There have been times I've had particular songs on "repeat" for an hour or more. Overcome by Live, Medication by Garbage, All I Want is You by U2, etc.

Sometimes you need to immerse yourself in a piece of mood music.

13. I usually find it is the mood that dictates the music.....
I was in a pretty good mood all day but tonight, well I went to a little party and everyone got a little too drunk.....

I don't care, per say, but I am a recovering Alcoholic and sometimes I wish that my friends and family would respect that and not get trashed......

I feel so alone when that happens....

Can't relate to the AA groups, cause there so gung ho anti drinking, which I am not, it's just, well, I sometimes need to have fun with people who can just talk, visit and not get faced.....

Ah I'll get over it for sure, it's not the first time.....

Neko is working her magic.........

21. Oh I agree the mood usually dictates the music
When I refer to "mood music" I mean music that suits the mood I'm in. I'm not normally one to use music to set a mood.

And I understand your point about people needing to respect your alcohol status. It is just disrespectful to carry on like that in front of a person who cannot/should not do something. I have a friend who never had a drinking problem, but just doesn't tolerate it well (it makes him lose good judgement and do things he really regrets). Therefore when I'm with him I rarely drink. If I do drink, it's only a few light drinks.

33. "Sycamore Trees" is a GREAT song...
I love Jimmy Scott's voice, anyway...and Angelo Badalamenti is one of the better composers of film music I can think of (his stuff on the "Lost Highway" soundtrack was excellent, especially "Red Bats With Teeth").

47. I do adore Angelo Badalamenti's compositions
The Pink Room is my favorite by him.

Listening to music from TP also got me hooked on Julee Cruise. The soundtrack from the TP tv show has a number of her songs, plus I have one of her CDs. I especially like The World Spins, which is quite haunting.

Sometimes there's a song that just speaks to the way I feel at the moment (more often than not it's the sort of thing you're talking about, too...dark, depressing and unhappy). I don't seem to do it with happy music, for some reason

The Great Beyond
by REM

I've watched the stars fall silent from your eyes
All the sights that I have seen
I can't believe that I believed I wished
That you could see
There's a new planet in the solar system
There is nothing up my sleeve

I'm pushing an elephant up the stairs
I'm tossing up punchlines that were never there
Over my shoulder a piano falls
Crashing to the ground

And all this talk of time
Talk is fine
But I don't want to stay around
Why can't we pantomime, just close our eyes
And sleep sweet dreams
Me and you with wings on our feet

I'm pushing an elephant up the stairs
I'm tossing up punchlines that were never there
Over my shoulder a piano falls
Crashing to the ground

I'm breaking through
I'm bending spoons
I'm keeping flowers in full bloom
I'm looking for answers from the great beyond

I want the hummingbirds, the dancing bears
Sweetest dreams of you
I look into the stars
I look into the moon

I'm pushing an elephant up the stairs
I'm tossing up punchlines that were never there
Over my shoulder a piano falls
Crashing to the ground

I'm breaking through
I'm bending spoons
I'm keeping flowers in full bloom
I'm looking for answers from the great beyond

16. REM does it for me........
But the Americana songs, the wide open space of America, the loss of all that is good, the loss of a love gone south, the desire to hold on tight to someone you want to melt into.........

And knowing she is never gonna be back again....

But you know, the next one could be right over the horizon, waiting, listening to sad songs, waiting for me......

That's the way I feel right now........

15. Exit Music (For a Film)
ever since I learned the last verse contained real words, well, I was listening to it over and over since 1997 (with brief breaks for sleeping, fussing and fighting)

RADIOHEAD LYRICS

"Exit Music (For A Film)"

Wake.. from your sleep
The drying of your tears
Today we escape, we escape

Pack.. and get dressed
Before your father hears us
Before all hell breaks loose

Breathe, keep breathing
Don't lose your nerve
Breathe, keep breathing
I can't do this alone

Sing.. us a song
A song to keep us warm
There's such a chill, such a chill

You can laugh
A spineless laugh
We hope your rules and wisdom choke you
Now we are one in everlasting peace

We hope that you choke, that you choke
We hope that you choke, that you choke
We hope that you choke, that you choke

And Lookin forward, which can be as meloncholy.....

thinking of all the dreams that will never come true....

The goals I will never achieve.....

As you get older, everything closes in on you, your world can get small if you let it.....

Most of the time I fight it but tonight, well it's just awful close in.........

stuff will get better. dont worry.

it cant hurt to look back now and then. if you dont remember where you came from, and what mistakes you make... if you lose sight of them, youre more apt to make them again.

it will get better man, believe me... how often do i play the optimist? you know im serious if im lookin on the bright side.

A week ago it was "Lucifer Sam" off the 1st Pink Floyd album (w/ Syd Barrett).

This past week it was "Until She Comes" by the Psychedelic Furs, and "Into the Light" by Siouxsie and the Banshees.

Yesterday it was "T.V. Eye" by the Stooges.
