Poll question: Did anybody like Team America: World Police ?

In the form of a poll so nobody will be scared off from expressing the unpopular opinion. Girlfriend rented it through IControl, has it for the rest of Saturday, and is recommending it strongly. I have a feeling that if it had come out in say 1999 I might have regarded it as brilliant satire, but at this late date I'm likely to throw a brick through the TV. 10. Off topic but I really like this part of the review

Klawans on Peter Davis' Hearts and Minds:

It is one of the great feats of filmmaking: a coolly comprehensive assessment of America's war against Vietnam, completed while the shots were still being fired. Since the film's first showing in 1974, and its subsequent receipt in 1975 of the Oscar for best documentary, an entire generation has grown up without being able to watch this picture on the screen. Parker and Stone belong to this generation, which never saw the realities of American power revealed in a movie house but was steeped in counterfantasies, which soon came flooding into theaters as if to wash away Davis's achievement: First Blood, Top Gun, Missing in Action and their innumerable knockoffs.

As for Team America I have to say I was very underwhelmed by the film. I am a fan of South Park and even enjoy Baseketball and Orgazmo, so I get the humor. The sense of so called balance that Klawans spoke of was very true, atleast in my opinion. I guess I just missed the movie or the movie just missed me, I don't know.

For anyone here who hasn't seen Hearts and Minds though, the documentary is strongly recommended.

4. It was mediocre at best

Didn't hate it, it had a few funny moments, but overall I was just underwhelmed. I'll stick to South Park.

and I thought that people who take themselves seriously enough to be offended by this movie need to relax a bit and maybe switch to decaf.

7. I thought it was great.

It made fun of both sides. Parker and Stone have a history of making fun of everyone with extreme views. I saw a little of myself in some of what they make fun of- in that movie, in their other movies, and in Southpark. I can laugh at myself. :) I also see them make fun of everything else. They don't limit themselves to one side. And I like that.

9. I admit it - I'm a dick

That means I need sensitive people to tell me when I'm going too far sometimes. I acknowledge that.

But there are some people in this world we stand united against - those who want to ruin our way of life and everything our parents worked and fought for.

Great lesson learned from Team America: World Police.

That, and Gary and Lisa have way too much energy on their hands. I understand the unrated version got downright "Eww" at times.
