My fave show was the one that showed the different kinds of sharks...the most eerie shark being the Greenland Shark. It's a MONSTER shark I had never heard of.

I live in Texas now, but grew up on the Mississippi coast, and make it back there several times a year. My parenst are still there. I always head to Alabama when I'm there. Gulf Shores, Foley (to eat at Lamberts) and Dauphin Island, mainly.

The hurricanes are channeled on the FloriBama line right now, but they'll start hitting Mississippi again, then we'll be the ones needing a hand up.

Tuscaloosa, where 'Bama is. But those last two big storms were projected to go over with 100 mile winds. Luckily, neither one played out that way. It was still scary though.

78. Hurricanes

Are terrifying. I remember huddling in hallways as tornados rumbled overhead, and feeling the walls start to breath in and out. People think they are big thunderstorms with strong winds, but they are far worse, and every one is different. Some have huge storm surges, some have flooding rains, some have tornados, some have such barometric pressure drops that they blow out windows. Some have intense winds. The ones with the winds and rain are the worst for inland towns.

Camille was the worst. I was four, but I remember it. Camille had everything, from a thirty foot storm surge (which is almost unheard of) to 210+MPH winds. I drove through Pensacola soon after Ivan, and the destruction was awesome, but it was nothing like Camille. Camille did damage all the way up to Tennessee, and I think it was still a hurricane by the time it hit Jackson. The thought of another Camille hitting the more populated Coast of today is horrifying, but some of the recent storms looked like they had the chance to grow that strong.

I was only 4. My dad and several of his friends went to the coast to help with clean-up.

I lived about two hours from Biloxi then. We had just moved to Mississippi from Texas. I'll never forget losing power and my mom having to go to McDonalds to get hamburgers because that was the only restaurant in town that was open. Indeed, that was my first McDonald's hamburger.
