11. it's a DAF fellowship, in cultural anthropology.
I was verrrrrry lucky that the archeologist PhD hopefuls didn't get the funding. My areas of research are globalization, identity, heritage studies, consumption patterns, semiotics, and urban anthropology.

27. that's a cool field
I'm interested in anthropology for many reasons, one I am an American Indian, and another, in how it pertains to the War On Terror. I'll paste a page of an anthropologist named David Price, who's work I have read quite a bit of. It has a lot of his articles from the last 3 or 4 years. Really fascinating stuff. He does a lot of stuff that is war related, anthropology studies about the World Wars, Cold War and the War On Terror. You may find it helpful in your research, or just for academic curiousity. I highly recommend his work for anyone with left-leaning political views anyway, but you probably will find it even more fascinating because of your field too. Anyway, good luck with everything.

in our department we have a woman who, upon completion of her PhD will become tribal anthropologist for the Wolf Clan of the Oneida. I think it's vital we have native americans getting into anthropology to add depth and perpective. Can't all be white bread like myself ;)

10. Congratulations !!
I have a doctorate in history and for the last five years have been unsuccessful in finding employment in my field (it's just so darn crowded, history Ph.D.s are a dime a dozen I might add). So I have to be content in teaching one of my skills in lieu of my academic love.

Once again, congratulations and all the best.

14. I've really struggled to find a niche in my field.
people either love my work or think it's not "traditional" enough. One thing that's nice about anthro is that if I can't get researhc funding or a university appointment, I can always go into teaching (ughh), private industry/comsultation (double ughh) or if all else fails, work in a museum (ok but the pay sucks). It's a Phd or nothing in this game.

31. German teacher right?
I think you mentioned that to me the other day.

Still, teaching is an honorable profession.

I'm mainly a writer, so I'm going to have to get a regular job too. However, I can always write on my own and just see what happens, you know?

The good thing about being intellectual is you can make that passion and love towards something into a serious hobby if need be. Then if you happen to get the chance to make a living off of it, even better. :)

35. Correct
It's not so bad as I do enjoy languages. Besides German, I have studied Polish, Russian and Spanish.

I did end up in a rather good school; the average SAT score is around 1060, which is pretty good for SC. Since German has a reputation for being difficult I seem to get the better, more serious students. Also, there are rewards in helping young people.

I agree that I can make history a serious hobby and I this is how I spend most of my free time.

BTW, being a teacher affords me the opportunity to make extra money in the summer by taking class trips to Germany and surrounding areas. This year I took eleven students and two parents on a trip through Denmark and northern Germany. Not only did I receive a free trip as the group leader, there was a cash stipend from the tour company. One more trip like the aforementioned one and I will receive a free trip for two to a city of my choice in Europe. As the tour company is British my choices are limited to Europe.

Thanks for the support!

:)

yeah those three months off in the summer do afford you some good time off for traveling. I've been to Bulgaria, as an athlete, years ago. I really want to travel though, once I graduate and get a little money and ll.

You're welcome, it's good to see you enjoy doing you thing. Keep it up.

43. geez could they be any tougher?
:)

Dublin, Rome, Berlin and Athens really jump out at me.

....Rome or Athens....

Rome. For historical purposes, I'd just have to see that place. I think that would have to be one of the true greatest experiences for a person to have. Provided that they are interested in history and culture etc. So Rome would be my pick on that one.

Which are you leaning towards?

44. At first I was leaning toward Dublin as I am interested in Ireland
but a British friend of mine told me that Dublin was becoming rather expensive (I don't know if it is true or not, so I'll have to take his word on that). I've been to Barcelona twice, so that's out. Berlin would afford me the opportunity to revisit my old stomping grounds from my grad school days, however I've been to Berlin so many times now I wouldn't stay there (but that's where the hotel accommodations would be). The historian in me is causing serious thoughts about Rome or Athens; just too many things to see and do in those two cities. As of now they are the front-runners.

Since the trip will be for two, a friend of mine wants me to choose Amsterdam and take him along as he has friends there and we could really throw down and "par-tay".

One feature this tour company offers is that for every six paying guests, I get to give someone a free trip or accept £750 in compensation. When I schedule these trips, I become very, very popular.

60. Dublin intrigued me too when you mentioned it
But the curious side of me and the history lover narrowed it down quick to Rome or Athens. I barely picked Rome. Tough call. Couldn't go wrong either way. IMHO

I dabbled in health policy issues but I found that i got so depressed. I'm kinda like a psychic sponge. I want to change the world and I have worked in ddeveloping countries but to see that kind of poverty, disease, and misery in your own back yard is extremely trying on the soul. Good luck and Goddess bless!
