Pix of Veg Truck Conversion.
Edited on Sat Jul-23-05 05:51 PM by Opposite Reaction
Damn, it's like 110 degrees in the S.C. valley (no shit). I just was outin the sun checking out a neighbor's hot tub for apparent heater failure and accepted a Jack & Coke. Bad choice. Too f-in hot.

Anyway, I had to make a few wiring adjustments on the Veg Truck today, and I finished the installation of a little alarm circuit that will sound if I shut the truck off while in veg mode (if this happens, I would have to immediately restart the truck, switch to diesel, and idle for a couple of minutes to purge the injectors and lines of veg oil).

This week it seemed to run just fine on the veg earl. No major failures. One flame out at a traffic light (but it restarted OK). Once a return line started to leak and power just went away (because of air in the lines) but I just switched to diesel and continued home where I replaced the split hose.

I threw together a wep page slathered in Google ads (a man's gotta eat, or buy parts) showing features of the veg conversion. Check it out if you are interested, it's right here.

Edit: fix URL

It's geocities anyway, so allowed bandwidth in any given hour is small. Sorry.

Edit to change shit.

3. That sounds so great.
Where do you get the oil? And does it smell like french fries? :)

Seriously. though, we were in Spain a while back and they apparently use alternative oils there. It sounds like a good idea. What is the mileage like? And how about acceleration?

4. Good on you and your truck!
I've been feeling lately that bio/diesel engines are a great and relatively quick wean away from gasoline. I keep getting this "vision" of a five-cylinder diesel that gets 50 mpg. I'm off to check your page!
