Poll question: Best double album
Non-concert, non-greatest hits compilation.

27. The best album of the new century BY FAR
"Ronnie and Neil" moves me to tears. Fuck, so does "Angels and Fuselage".

The entire album just destroys everything. I love it to no end.

2. Fuck that, this poll's impossible. I'm boycotting.
You honestly expect me to choose between the White Album and Blonde on Blonde and fifty other perfect albums?

I'm boycotting.

12. Yeah, and "London's Calling" and "Songs in the Key..."
Mac56 has good taste in music, but has presented an impossible poll.

3. I wouldn't be able to choose...
...but don't forget:

Captain Beefheart - Trout Mask Replica
The Mothers of Invention - Freak Out

Mutants have feelings, too.

4. You forgot "The Wall"
Edited on Sat Jul-23-05 11:05 PM by gmoney
I voted for London Calling, but I'm sure "The Wall" belongs on the short list. And I prefer "Quadrophenia" to "Tommy."

14. I would have put Pink Floyd on before Stevie Wonder
Stevie Wonder is like a completely different genre of music from the rest of the list. And let's face it, as much as I adore Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd absolutely ruled Rock and the radio with that album. Hell they made a fricking movie out of it!

13. I gave my vote to Todd Rundgren
Mostly, because he did so much of the work on his effort himself. Every time I listen to it I'm just amazed.

But, I would suggest that Yes' "Tales From Topographic Oceans" is also a superb double album. Oh, and Dream Theater's "Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence" is just incredible. And Genesis' "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway", without which we might not have "The Wall". And "Chicago Transit Authority" and also "Chicago II".

Okay, better stop before the list becomes 100 entries long. :D

35. Third!
It is the ONLY Double album that has NO filler whatsoever. Waters keeps you focused to his conceptual masterpiece from beginning to end. It also transcended into the film medium better than any other "Rock Opera"

17. Pink Floyd "A Nice Pair"
Or Nitty Gritty Dirt Band et al "Will the Circle Be Unbroken." Also support calls for "The Wall" and Genesis' "Lamb". And I'd have to say "Yessongs" is all time best triple.

23. Was that a double album originally?
Doesn't seem like it could be long enough.

Great album though. I'll take it over "Loco Live" easily.

25. I love them both for different reasons.
The sets are completely different, though, I believe even if it were originally released as a double album, it would still be disqualified from this poll.

26. A tie
"Freak Out!" the 1966 debut by the Mothers of Invention was the FIRST double album, predating Bob Dylan's masterwork "Blonde On Blonde" by a few weeks. Both are equally groundbreaking, and in fact, without "Blonde On Blonde", none of the albums listed in the poll would be possible.

33. dammit
I cannot overlook "Uncle Meat".

Or "You Are What You Is", just for 'Dumb All Over'.

But yeah... "Uncle Meat" has 'King Kong', and 'Dog Breath, In The Year of the Plague', and 'Nine Types of Industrial Pollution', and 'Cruisin' For Burgers'...

Zorch-stroking! Fast and bulbous!
