Program to capture sound playing on the sound card?
Some time ago there was an article I read about a guy who defeated the DRM of an online music service by capturing the sound as the song played .

I have an online music service and I purchase all my music from them so don't think I'm trying to be a crook. The problem I have is...in order for me to have these songs in a non-DRM mode I have to burn them to a CD and then copy them back in MP3 format. I'm looking for a way to shorten this process.

1. Many exist.
Some programs even come with the sound card you bought. Or on the computer since most people buy them rather than build them.

2. A program called Easy CD-DA Extractor,
will convert between formats, as well as ripping CDs and burning them. It's pretty good.

You can get a free 30-day version here:

4. I'm assuming you're talking about iTunes and the fact that you only get
their song files in .mp4 format which you can't use on non-Apple players. I've had the same problem.

5. The program I mentioned will convert mp4 to other formats
without needing to burn a cd first.

6. Creative.com has Sound Blaster software that will let you record live
WaveLab and Sound Forge are two other programs that do this.
