Why Do Albums Usually Come Out On Tuesday?

The major releases for PS2, XBOX, etc. are usually on Tuesdays. No idea why.

It seems like they would all come out on Friday as that is when most people get paid.

22. Nope. I've seen titles come out "a couple days early"... not good for

the store that sells them; if caught by the distributor, the company selling them early would lose their license to sell them and pay a huge-ass fine.

Wal-mart did this once according to a DUer and Best Buy did it a few times too. (not the companies deliberately, either a disgruntled or dimwitted worker...)

One idea I just came up with - a lot of restaurants have specials on Tuesdays because that's the slowest day for business. And when I was in retail that was our slowest day too. Maybe they do it on Tuesday to drum up sales?

If it's a slow day, that would be a nice time to sort of take all the attention away from well...nothing.

But since so many of these big important DVDs, games, products, albums come out on Tuesday...you'd think it would drum up sales. hmm

11. I think it is just a random day..

All stores need to start selling on the same day. This way WalMart can't start selling the new popular album a few days before the other stores receive shipment. Picking a day for all stores to start selling promotes fairness.

In the sense that it wasn't really picked for a reason. 20 years ago someone decided to use Tuesday. And they stuck with that day ever since.

15. shipping dates

i mail out magazines and we have to meet certain mailing dates so the magazines arrive at a certain time to the retailers.same with music,movies,games it gives the retailers time to get the stuff on the shelves before the weekend

18. I always assumed

that maybe the Billboard charts were compiled with weeks starting on Tuesday and ending with Monday. They usually are published on Fridays (at least I think) for the preceding week, but perhaps the week isn't a week in the sense that we think of (Sunday to Saturday). I could be totally off on this, but I just assumed it as I figured that the record companies would want their albums to have maximum sales possible during their first week on the Billboard chart.
