Anyone here have a pop-up/tent camper?
We're interested in the type that has pop-out sides and an actual toilet. We saw one today that looked pretty roomy all things considered.

I am curious, though, how much extra gas you burn hauling one of those things.

3. I had one
in the late 1970's. IIRC mileage on my 1972 Malibu dropped from 22 MPG to about 15 MPG. Those are Imperial gallons, too.

4. We have a Ford Explorer for our camping vehicle. I suspect the
gas prices will be almost as painful as a motel room. (We went tenting last year, got stormed out one night, and the very basic motel room we ended up in cost $138. Unreal!)

7. Cold sleep
They are great for going and easy to put up if not at night or in the rain or fog. They aren't necessarily cheap new. They are definitely the coldest sleeping trailer and should never be purchased for camping in any cold country. The beds being out over nothing gives no protection from cold on all sides. If you ever have to stop to put one together, in wind even, you will kick yourself. A small solid with even a porta potty will allow you to stop and sleep in weather without even unhooking. One more criticism, canvas does not hinder intrusion by many animals and one of those is a bear!

8. Trouble is hubby doesn't want anything of any height to tow. So the solid
wall deals are not real likely. However, my guess is we might start out with a pop-up and then as he gets used to towing he may find he wants to try a TT. (It seems that a lot of folks do that. Upgrade trailers, I mean.)
