Age check - ever been to a movie theater with a balcony?
And when was the last time?

I'm sure there are a few still around that have been restored.

Me:
Yes, about 1973 - but the balcony was closed.

4. Yep
The York and the Mercury. And there was a stage behind the screen. It turned me into a theater snob. Can't stand the multi-plex bullshit.

13. yup. loads
then, in teh 70's it seemed many old theaters either close doutright or converted the balcony into a separate small theater.

Now a few have been restored.

I miss 'em. It was teenage make-out territory . . .

14. balconies
I grew up near a theater with a balcony. Unfortunately, during the 70s, it went multiplex and the balcony was torn out.

15. Yes, around 1982.
The balcony was open. That theater was
later multiplexed and I haven't gone there since.

17. Oh yeah. This one time Warren Simpson...?
He was my nutty buddy.
Went to the Alabama Theater (Mentioned in another thread...very swank) with a rubber hot water bottle (before the era of plastic baggies) full of Campbell's Vegetarian Vegetable Soup under his jacket.

Sat in the balcony.
At a crucial part of the movie, he leaned over the balcony rail, went "URRRGGGHHH", and poured the soup on the audience below.

Absolute panic and mayhem ensued.
It was very dark, especially in the balcony, and he wasn't caught.
He was a nut.
RIP, Warren.
