I got rejected for a credit union job.

And I went in there, to the interview, so confident, at least on the outside. God I hate getting rejected. I just want this to end. I want to have a job, an apartment, a girlfriend etc. The ability to travel to places I have never been before. But it seems like it is never going to happen. I feel more and more that I have nothing left to live for. The help line won't help me, based on my last few tries.

You may need to look a little farther afield. You say your hobby is hiking - what about applying to be a park ranger?

23. I recently heard of an opera singer who went into that field and now

has a great job!:shrug: I am also unemployed. I have my moments when it feels like I'll be a bag lady! Then, my mood shifts and I realize I'll be okay. hang in there. there are so many resources online. I apply for about 6 jobs per day. Look into openings at local colleges and universities. State jobs. Network. Let EVERYONE you know you are looking. The more you apply, the greater your chances. Get resume help. gather all your resources and have them at the ready. Make it a full time job to job hunt. Slap yourself in the face and push through. I'm taking an AADD medication right now that helps me drag myself to the computer and search, search, search.:hug:

4. I am in the same boat.

I have gotten to the point, where I am so afraid of rejection, that I do not submit resumes for jobs that I know I am qualified for. The thought of interviews that I was so confident for just last month, make me want to throw up.

Please don't let it make you give up hope. Looking for a job; no matter how long, IS a temporary phase. It doesn't say anything about you as a person.

Whenever I get desprate, I try to think of things in my life that I am grateful for: it could be as mundane as the fact the sky was blue when I woke up.

6. Check your credit rating. The vermin use it to determine if you're worthy

If you had a bankruptcy, you're toast. Especially in a banking field.

If you're in credit counseling, ditto.

If you have a lot of debt, ditto.

If you have little or no history because you've got the common sense to not fall for their ploys, chances are ditto. (peoples' rates get jacked up if they have a card and don't use it... )

8. As one who has had do develope new strategies....

since I was laid off last April, I encourage you to keep a perspective. Things are going to get better , but you are going to give yourself credit for doing the best you can in a difficult situation. Meanwhile, keep doing the things you need to do to keep going.

Its going to turn around faster than when you thought possible.... meanwhile look at entry level stuff in places you want to be - but conserve your morale.

This last year has been very frustrating for me, but I choose how to respond - and still I am happier than I was in the last year of my executive employment.

I know this sounds like a chiche' but hold on... things will get better.

Wow, sounds like things are pretty rough for you and that you're pretty down.

I'm guessing you don't have insurance or else you'd seek counseling. If that's the case, I recommend running. I think getting out and running (not walking fast and not hiking) 15+ minutes does wonders for my sense of well being. Give it a shot! Hang in there, man.

What was the job you applied for?

Sometimes it's helpful to take on a crappy job first, then apply for better jobs while you're working at the crappy one. Also, getting on with a temp agency can increase your chances--a lot of companies hire on a temp-to-permanent basis.

He went from unemployed to a $20/hour job installing LANs, and from then on he was flush.

20. I got my last job by starting out as a temp.

Ended up staying for nearly four years, and developing all kinds of new skills.

You may look back on this as one of ths best moves you ever made.

19. I am doing exactly this.

After a dismal experience I landed in a very nice company and am on track to be hired full time with benefits this September. Just getting a job, and then getting a better one is beneficial alone. Also I was not letting my skills atrophy - as tired as I became of indepth discussions about routers, switches, Voice Over IP, VPNs and LAN archetecture.,.. it was good to keep my hand in and a lot better than unemployment.

I just mean to say getting some momentum in the work force, even as a temp is a good choice for a number of reasons. Meanwhile scan the horizons for other options while you are employed. I promise it will keep you from gettng too depressed ...

things will be different, better.

22. I was going to suggest the temp thing. My younger sister started

out temping, and wound up being hired for the company and stayed for almost 10 years! So, you never know. Good luck!
