What movie have you watched more than any other?

I've watched "It's a Wonderful Life" every Christmas Eve for over 20 years. But, I'm sure I've watched "Casablanca" at least 50 times. I love those classic movies and Humphrey Bogart is one of my favorite actors.

32. What do you think of the miniseries with Colin Firth?

I do like the version with Greer Garson though I can't excuse Lady Catherine De Bourgh's "switch" at the end. I love the miniseries because of the length -- there is more from the book. And Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy -- hubba, hubba (not that Lawrence Olivier wasn't hubba hubba in his day).

Did you know there is a new (movie) version coming out this fall with Kiera Knightly? I am skeptical -- I will see it if for no other reason than to see Judith Dench play Lady Catherine. I hope Knightly doesn't play Elizabeth Bennett too modern -- that bugs me in historical fiction when they modernize the characters too much.

but it does not repeat on TV as often. If I had half a brain I would see if it is available on DVD. Yes, I know, there is a problem with Lady Catherine in the old movie version, but the rest is great.

I heard about the new movie and am excited. I also have some qualms after having seen the trailer on Yahoo. I am having a hard time picturing Knighly as Elizabeth, but I hope for best. I do love Jane Austen. and Judy Dench will be great.

There is apparently a sort of Pride and Prejudice Underground on DU. Several of us are addicted to the 1940 film adaptation, with all its terrific character actors. Yes, the costumes are from the wrong era, and make Lady Catherine a loveable old curmudgeon, but could you say no to this face?

Christmas. He is a big fan of the film as well. He pointed out that it
is one of the few perrenial holiday movies that is strictly for adults.

Wolcott also noted that in the movie Vera Drake looks like some sort
of dancing insect with her alarmingly skinny legs!

36. King Kong - For years I had a policy of dropping what I was doing

and watching anytime I see it is on. Still do, to an extent. Love the old special effects -- they're still quite good in places -- and the fast paced story. I like it when he's on the Empire State Building and you can see open, rural land within 50 miles of Manhattan. I like the biplanes taking off from "Idlewild," I assume, with the ESB in the background. I like Kong going after the elevated trains. I like everything about the movie, especially the music.

80. "King Kong" is a great commentary on American hucksterism

It really is a very good movie. Kong is clearly the hero, put upon by exploiters who want to make a buck off of him as a freak show. Robert Armstrong is the key opposite character, and emblematic of the unscrupulous entrepreneur, and the American spirit of boosterism.

The romance of Fay Wray and the guy is mostly just window dressing. Wray exists as a romantic symbol for Kong, of a life he can never have.

After that, it would probably be "Citizen Kane," "The Third Man," "Dracula," and "Deception."

74. The 1984 film version of Carmen by Francesco Rosi

This is a filmed version of the famous Bizet opera, shot on location in a small Spanish town, with fantastic acting, gorgeous cinematography, and of course some of the world's most beautiful music ever written. The film takes a few liberties with the opera, with some dialogue filling in the gaps. Placido Domingo and Julia Migenes Johnson are the two main voices. It's a film I've been putting in the VCR often over the last 10 years.
