Org Charts: A way for big babies to say "I'm a BIG boy/girl
everybody look at MEEEEEE!"

Ever notice that the only people who ever want these things created are near the top.

1. Actually, state regulations require that my company keep updated org
charts - they have to be done at least annually.

5.  That's one thing ...
But I've known people to actually spend their own time - not for official or reporting purposes - lovingly creating charts for their division or department, etc., and really getting into it; really caring!

2. I have to admit...
...I got a small tickle of satisfaction the first time I saw my name on one. I thought it was nice of them to include the janitors.

4. you sound like a bitter peon
bitter bitter. You'll be singing a different tune when you are all high and mighty like me.

6. I am bitter...
but peon would imply that I actually do some work - and I'll have to admit that I have a sinecure. As long as I show up here, I can pretty much get away with about 5 hours of work per month. At least I stay well informed by surfing the internets all day.

7. this is true
the higher you are the more clearly you can be targeted, and the further your head rolls

I love being a consultant - best of all possible worlds, but not so good for long lasting work relationships.

8. I've always loved organizational charts!
And family trees, the Periodic Table...maybe my mind just works that way. It's just so nice to see everyone (everything?) fit neatly into place. And I'm about as far from being a "big shot" as it's possible to get.

9.  I like family trees
and the Periodic Table of the elements. So I'm not completely anti-organization.

Flow charts are a mixed bag. I only like flow charts if they relate to something completely objective, like a computer program. I HATE when someone tries to shoehorn something into a flow chart that cannot be analyzed in such a way. Like, "How do you spend your Sundays".
