A 22-year-old man who legally married a 14-year-old girl in Kansas after she became pregnant has been criminally charged in Nebraska for having sex with her. Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning said Matthew Koso of Falls City began a sexual relationship with the girl when she was 13. After she became pregnant, her mother gave permission in May for Koso to take their daughter to Kansas, which allows minors to get married with parental consent.

Nebraska prosecutors have charged a 22-year-old Falls City man with sexual assault for having intimate relations with a 14-year-old girl he legally married in Kansas.

Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning says Matthew Koso of Falls City began a sexual relationship with the girl when she was 13.

Bruning says that after the teen became pregnant, her mother gave permission for Koso to take her daughter to Kansas and marry her. Kansas allows minors to get married with parental consent.

LINCOLN, Neb. -- A 22-year-old man who legally married a 14-year-old girl in Kansas after she became pregnant has been criminally charged in Nebraska with having sex with her.

Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning said Matthew Koso, of Falls City, Neb., began a sexual relationship with the girl when she was 13. After the girl became pregnant, her mother gave permission for Koso to take her daughter to Kansas, which allows minors to get married with parental consent.

Bruning calls the marriage "repugnant."

Koso faces a charge of first-degree sexual assault, punishable by up to 50 years in prison.

The girl and Koso were married in May.

12. I am so tired of this story!

My mother was 14 when she became pregnant w/ me and 15 when she had me. She was 16 when she married my father. There is a six year age difference between the two of them.
I'm not saying that I support these kind of relationships but my goodness! What am I supposed to do? Am I supposed to sit down and badmouth the two for getting married? Am I supposed to badmouth them for having a sexual relationship (when my best friend started having sex when she was 12)?
I am tired of this story and the comments that some made on the other thread about white trash and trailers. It makes me feel like shit when I read those types of comments. It makes me feel like some posters think that I am not good enough to be here.

14. It's really a nonstory compared to so many other things

going on right now. Relationships like this happen all the time. I didn't click on the link on DU for this story. I had read one earlier today about it. I remember the story that I had read earlier stated that the prosecutor (I believe) was up for reelection in '06. Who wants to bet that if it wasn't so close to an election year that this would have been overlooked?
The parents ok'ed it, the couple involved seemed fine w/ it, and there is a baby on the way. At least he seems to want to stick around for the baby and be a father. Many children in the US don't have a father in their lives. And cases like this will not stop this kind of behavior. Instead, it may have an impact on men wanting to own up to their behavior and accept responsibility.
We don't know the whole story. I can say for a fact that when I was 13 I constantly lied about my age. I know of many other girls who did the same. We were almost always 17. And we were asked out by much older men all the time. It wouldn't be the first time that something like this has happened and it won't be the last time.
