Who else feels equally at ease in GD and the Lounge?

Maybe it's because I am equal parts arrogant genius (humble too) and unrestrained screwball but I like and feel comfortable in both places.

I like the fun atmosphere of the Lounge, I have lots of friends there (Night Crew Rules!) but I also like to get into the hardcore wars in GD. It's fun and challenging. I am also pretty proactive, so I don't really get into the same wars some others may get into. For example, some people are passionate about Howard Dean others John Kerry and others Wes Clark. (other people too, but these candidates start wars in GD) Well, I happen to like, respect and admire all three. None are above any criticism, of course, but I respect them all. So I don't seem to get into the big fights so much on that. I also, in no way, ever sound like a Freeper, except out of sarcasm, so that helps too.

I also recognize that my Lounge friends are just as passionate and knowledgeable about politics as anybody else here. They just like to kick back and take a break from it all, and that's a good thing too.

So, yeah, I am a proud and frequent poster in both places. Who else?

I find that many people are mean to me in the lounge too. I doubt if I am alone in this. There was a thread here about cajones after all.

I try not to take it personally when I get flamed on the boards. I go back and re-read my posts and usually find that there was something provocative in my tone or content. Everybody around here has their own hot buttons and if you press them they go off. That's just how it is.

because I have a thick skin for most of that stuff. What I hate is getting in big arguments etc. Especially over small things too.

Truth be told, I didn't feel comfortable in the Lounge for the first year or so I was a member of DU - I thought people were meaner here than in GD. All these private jokes and thinly veiled threads started about fellow DUers - it was kind of intimidating.

Then I got to know one of the Lounge regulars via PM, ironically, when I sent this person a PM related to moderator action. I think we were both surprised to discover the other wasn't so bad. I don't know if I'll ever be a true Lounge Lizard, or if this person will ever be a moderator, but it was a good lesson for us both, I think. Made me a lot more comfortable posting here, too.

It wasn't the in-jokes so much as the whole atmosphere. I was here to be serious, dammit! And the Lounge a while back was where the disruptors would go to run up their post totals, so I didn't trust it. Any thread that didn't state a clear political opinion was suspect.

After the elections last year, though, I was so burned out on politics I stayed away from DU for a while. I wandered back because I missed it, but I wasn't in the mood for heavy politics yet. So I started hanging out in the Lounge more. Now I can hang either place, just depends on my mood, and what other people are posting.

If I want to get politically serious, I'll go to GD. If I was to relax and loosen up, I'll go to The Lounge. The Lounge has had some great serious threads, but some of the dumbest flame-wars I've ever seen. But then again, so does GD.

I prefer the late-night Lounge, that's more my vibe. Very little hair-trigger flame wars there, and I like that. Just people quietly enjoying each other's company, even if it's only in spirit..

that people in GD are a lot more likely to make snide comments, etc. than people in the Lounge. I have to mentally put on my armor when I go into GD because in this place, lame posts and threads just die, but over there you are a lot more likely to get people giving you this: :eyes: or a flamethrower or stuff. Of course I am a lot more likely to bitch at someone over there too. :evilgrin:

I tend to post more in the Lounge, but I'm comfortable posting in GD as well.

I don't like it when people are unnecessarily rude, though, and this seems to happen more often in GD. I've not yet had this happen to me, but it will at some point, I'm sure. Sometimes it seems as though people are looking for a fight. In these situations, I try to count to 10 and reply as politely as I can and still present my case. I always try to treat people with respect and hope that they'll give it back.

One thing that I like about GD is that it seems that you don't have to know people to get responses. It seems that the people in the Lounge tend to reply to their friends' posts. There's nothing wrong with this -- it's just something that I've noticed.

44. It depends. I'm always at ease in the Lounge, but GD can be a warzone.

Of course this could be because my views on a host of foreign policy issues are more centrist than most on DU, so a lot of fights can break out. It's cool though. The GD keeps me on my toes, and I agree with about 70 percent of the non-foreign policy stuff posted there.
