So I punched someone in the nose over politics
back in elementary school, 30 years ago, roughly. She was defending Nixon so I slugged her. (She's one of only two people I've ever slugged, the other was when I was pregnant, and I plead hormones + inlaws on that one.)

We kept in touch loosely over the years, and I got an email from her yesterday out of the blue after she found me by googling. I answered back and laughed about how a google search (very mistakenly!) lists me as having a speaking engagement with Senator Levin.

She responded "And I must say that I’m glad that at least you are doing speaking engagements with a Democrat and that you have not gone over to the dark side…."

HA! One more convert.

1. Speaking of the darkside......
I know a woman who converted to Republican after being heckled by teenagers pretending to be muslims in a yahoo chatroom right after 911 (she is not the highest wattage bulb on the planet). Her Hubby was already a "born again" nut job. Upon turning republican her husband said "Welcome to the dark side". His saying that to her always struck me as odd (Sold his soul?). I know its unrelated, but whenever I hear "Dark side" in a political context I am reminded of that.

2. gosh, that's weird
but I might say something like that in a moment of black humor. I did, after all, apologize to my husband dryly for being the voice of the devil, after the last sermon at his church that I sat through.
