What's Your Coolest T-Shirt?
Edited on Tue Jul-26-05 10:28 PM by Merrick
I'd have to go with the one I wore today - a dark blue shirt adorned with the bleach drawn/stained visage of Dostoevsky my sister made me

but a close second would be this one I couldn't help buying for its kitsch value:

1. My coolest T is 20 years old.
It's dark blue, with white lettering that says Never Try To Teach A Pig To Sing, It Wastes Your Time And Annoys The Pig.

It was true then. It's even more true now.

Cool slogan and all, but then I visited the website of the people who made the shirt... Bunch of 60's throwback commune hippy weirdos....

I still like the shirt, though.

10. Neil Gaiman's Death
for those of you not familiar with her, Death is a goth chick who invariably deals calmly and sort of warmly with the people who come her way. Everyone.

And to the constant refrain of "why me?" and "why now?" she says something like "you got what everyone gets; you got a life"

I know the thing is cool because I walked into a comic book store with it on and two kids playing one of those contest board games told me so. Since I was 58 at the time I had to figure the shirt REALLY had to be cool for the kids to even notice the fat old guy coming through the front door.

Unless they were ditching school and figured I was a truancy officer.

My Skin Two T shirt showing a girl in latex sodomizing her boyfriend (I can't wear it anywhere!)

My RFD tank top with pansies on it.

My Lovehounds T shirt with KaTe Bush with a key in her mouth (the cover of The Dreaming).

The one with the punk vampire dude biting a woman's wrist and Love Sucks emblazoned across it.

Mostly I just wear a black wifebeater cuz it looks good with my pale skin and blonde hair.

31. i have a few.
One is my Team Frankenstein shirt that my girlfriend made me. Looks like a big white F on a black t-shirt, emulating the movie Death Race 2000.

Another one i love she made me also, it was just a big Pogues patch with a buncha people on it and it says "If I Should Fall From Grace With God"

Probably my favorite shirt I don't wear though. It was a white dress shirt, before I went to see GWAR! Now it's a reddish-yellowish-blue with some black tie dye mess from the "blood, urine, cum, and oil" sprayed on the crowd.

36. Remember that I'm an old lady.
In the 70's I had a shirt with a goldfish on the front which said, "A woman without a man is like a fish without a bicycle." I was newly divorced, so it was meaningful.

I have one now which is about 15 years old that says, "Nice chest for an old lady." It became even funnier for me after I had bypass surgery.

It is a cartoon of two professor types in front of a blackboard. On the left are all sorts of equations; x/y2x =4+1xc-4y2 x x2z etc.etc.....in the middle it says

"Then a miracle occurs"
on the right more equations.

The caption reads
"I think you need to be a little more specific here in step 2"

I have several that were put out by the Loctite company for the Indianapolis 500. (Loctite is a thread-locking liquid used to secure nuts and bolts and they have been an "Official Supplier" for the Indy 500 for years)

On the front it has their logo and the year of the race.

On the back it says:
"Use Loctite or kiss your nuts goodbye"

I collect old prep school shirts, REAL ones, mind you, not GAP/Old Navy knockoffs.

I also get them from strange bars when I travel (ideally, I'll get a pint glass and a T-shirt, the tackier the better)

but nothing that's 'cool' per se. So in lieu of anything good, I'll throw up my Wastach Brewing Polygamy Porter shirt, slogan? "take some home for the wives"

on edit, I forgot, I recently dug out my classic "so many fundamentalists, so few lions" shirt.

60. Jenny Holzer, Barbara Kruger
Edited on Thu Jul-28-05 01:01 AM by swag
I have one by the artist Jenny Holzer with the same lettering but slight variation in the slogans on the self-contradictory set of propositions pictured here:

and I have a Barbara Kruger shirt in the same vein that was created for the "Content" show at the Portland Art Museum about 12 years ago:

The one people like the most, though, is this shirt with an image of the Mexican Wrestler and film star El Sante battling the mummies of Guanajuato, the shirt a gift from my darling bride upon her return from her faboo Mexican vacation. I don't have an image of it, though.
