Tonight I saw one of the Drifters in a second rate bar in a

third rate town.....

He was awesome. I can't believe I went to meet this guy I'm doing some political work for and after we ate some of the best pasta I have had in years, out from the bar comes Only You..........


There is this 70 something black dude playing the keyboards and singing like it's 1958 or something......

All the women around the bar melted off the years and swayed to the finger bopping music of the late 50's and early 60's as sung by one of the guys that was there.... For just a moment they were back at a sock hop waiting for the teen angel to come and take them away from all of this.....

There were tears in my eyes......

Turns out he was just "drifting" through Cleveland on his way to Las Vegas, a friend of a friend called up the owner of this bar restaurant and there was the 50's, in all the splendor that I remember as oldies when I was a lad....

It was a different time, a different place and then the Beatles came and changed it all......

Sigh, it's different and sad in a way, watching nostalgia wash away Iraq, Rove and all the problems of the world outside that bar....

But for a moment, just a breath of a day, I crawled out from under the boardwalk and went up on the roof for a moment out of time....

I just woke up. And I still have a glow from it. I didn't stay all that long but enough to make an ordinary Tuesday night here in Cleveland special for the rest of my life......
