mangoes, yum, yum!
extra sweet nice and cold ... or mango shake:
slices of mango into a an osterizer.
sugar to taste (or equal, or splenda whatever the sweetener) or no sweeterner if none preferred.
milk.
some ice.
turn on the blender- mix- and yummy, yummy, mango shake.

It's embarrassing, but I usually just eat mine standing over the sink. They're my favorite fruit. :9

6. i also eat mango cold mango slices like on a side with meat --
sort of like sweet fried plantains except that they are not fried and they are refrigerator cold. they are good, too.

mango slices standing over the sink are good too, i've had a few myself.

but, if you get a chance to make yourself a mango shake, try it. you might like it!

Oh, it's so chewy and sweet. Truly delish. I like cutting it into bits and adding it to fruit salads.

And then try dried mango dusted with red chile powder. Verrry intriguing.

8. do you dry the mango yourself, or do you have to buy it that way?
i also place mango slices on the plate like a side to meats, or to arroz con frijoles (rice and beans) and they will probably be good with ham too.

15. I buy it in the bulk foods section
It's in the same section as cranberries, raisins, prunes, trail mix....

I've also seen it dried and coated with chile and sold in plastic packaging at a taqueria we enjoy.

but they are stringiest mangos i've ever had.

5. My favorite thing to do with mangos...
after I've eaten them:

If you carefully pry the seed husk apart, you can get the little seed out (usually I need a knife to do this). Put the seed in a wet paper towel inside a zip lock bag and forget about it for about a month (or so). When you run across it later, it will have sprouted, and you can plant it just like an avocado pit, and you get a little tree.

Your thread reminds me, I've got one in the cupboard right now I ought to check on.

11. i'll have to tell my husband about this ... he loves to plant seeds...
he currently has five papaya trees growing in the garden from seeds that he planted, he has also planted some hot pepper seeds that are already giving hot peppers... we will now hopefull have us a mango tree at some point and that will be good since the department of agriculture will be removing ours (and everybody elses) citrus (grapefruit and orange) trees. as a child we had a mango tree that i used to climb up on when my mother wanted to call me to account for one thing or another she thought i needed to called into account for.

19. this is what the state department of agriculture is doing to eradicate
citrus canker--even if a tree is not infected but stands within a certain amount of feet of an infected tree the department of agriculture will cut it down ... one of the last still standing grapefruit tree in the neighborhood is ours, however, it is slated for the chopping block in a couple of weeks.

18. Or make your own - it's easy
Put in a blender: 1 cup yogurt, half a mango (in pieces), sugar to taste, and ice. You can also experiment with cardamom powder, cinnamon, or other sweeteners. As Kraklen suggests, a pinch is all you need. Blend until smooth.

Experiment with the amount of ice you use to get the thickness you like. I like mine nice and thick, so I use about 1/4 cup of crushed ice.

21. Man! That reminds me of a Brazilian urban legend that's NUTS!
Some people here say that you can't mix mango and milk - it's bad for your health.

Some OTHER people say that, in slavery times, mango trees were abundant at the plantations and slaves would eat them at will, with no objection from the masters. And the hoax was intentionally spread so slaves wouldn't steal milk!

The first one is 100% verifiably BS; the other, possibly BS too but not certain.

...both are made with milk... there may be something to the legend about brazilians not wanting to have the slaves steal the milk.

22. Mango salsa and chutney
are also great. Yhis time of year I make my chutney and cann it. The salsa is great with fish. I love them, but have to be careful eating them, break out in blisters around my mouth. So I have to cut them in small pieces, open wide an insert! My husband slices them into a brandy and then serve over vanilla ice cream.We are fanatics about mangos, in an area where they are plentiful.

Now THAT'S what I'm talking about. I love mango salsa and I usually make it whenever we have family gatherings in the summer. It barely makes it to the table before it's devoured. I always hide a little for myself or else I won't get a taste.

27. I use a very simple recipe I found on the internet
Here it is:

2 ripe mangos peeled and chopped
1/2 cup finely chopped red onion
1/4 cup coarsely chopped cilantro
1-2 jalapeno peppers diced
1 tablespoon of balsamic vinegar
pinch of salt

Enjoy!!

I'm sure what you'd make at home would be unbeatable, but since tasting the mango salsa some years back and falling in love with it, my wife always gets me a case for christmas each year from a place called "plantation house" plantationhousesalsa.com - this is the only product of theirs we've ever tried, but hot diggity damn it's fine stuff.

Ahhhh mango - nature's perfect food.

28. I had one in Mexico earlier this summer...
they cut it up really fancy, but it on a stick, and dribbled some cherry-syrupy stuff on it, along with some kind of spice.

Dee-licious, though messy as hell.
