"American Dreams" fans: news on airing alternate ending this summer!
NBC All-Star Party

7:57 Scoop! It’s the news American Dreams fans have been dying to hear: The alternate ending series creator Jonathan Prince shot but never aired will finally see the light of day this summer, per NBC chief Jeff Zucker. “Thank you for reminding me about that,” Zucker tells me. “I’m going to make some phone calls about that tomorrow. It’s gonna happen.”

1. I'm hoping this is true. I'm STILL bumming about NBC cancelling
the series.

5. OH, you're kidding. It was absolutely my favorite TV series of all
time.

As a child of the 60s, I was RIVETED by it each week, so much so that when they moved it to Wednesday just before West Wing, I couldn't watch West Wing afterwards. American Dreams put me in an altered reality, I think.

2. NBC has treated the fans of this show like shit
They ignored our cards, letters and e-mails to the network, preferring only to pay attention to the viewing habits of those few thousand people lucky enough to have those prized Nielsen boxes on their TV's. They destroyed what I think was the best show to be on TV in 10 years and put a bunch of shitty "reality" shows and endless cops and courts shows. And no word about Season 2 on DVD!

4. The show should not need any "ending"..

The one they aired was actually a "cliff-hanger" for the NEXT season.. Will Meg actually join the counter-culture?

Set up a whole new dynamic for "next" season, but someone piut the ki-bosh on this show for political reasons.. The anti-war theme was getting to be a bit much for "whoever"..

The irony?

This show WAS their flagship show.. ballyhooed like crazy and it was popular with ALL demographics.. They knew going into the show, that the era they planned to present was ALL about turbulence and war..

They spiked it because it was too close to home..

I was hoping that HBO might pick it up, since Sopranos is ending or Showtime, since Six Feet Under is ending..

6. Wonder if we could start a campaign for that?
For some alternative cable channel to pick it up?

7. Too late for that
Will Estes, Jonathan Adams and Gail O'Grady all have other shows set to air this fall. The sets have also been torn down and many of the props were put up for sale on EBay.

8. I was hoping the WB or some other network would pick it up.
I agree with the poster who wrote that the show was scrubbed because the themes were hitting a little too close to home.

I'm sure the political themes did not help, but believe me, if the Nielsen numbers (which is a bullshite way to decide which shows stay and which shows get the ax) had shown that 12 million people a week watched AD, then it would have gotten a 4th season. Look at the West Wing. Talk about a show that really hits close to home, and from a much more overtly liberal perspective than was the case on AD, and it was re-upped for a 7th season. AD's political leanings certainly did not help, and that may have been the tiebreaker to seal its fate, but the real problem was the damn ratings.

10. It would have helped if they had not pre-empted it every other week
:grr:..and then MOVED it to a different night.. Sunday evening worked perfectly.. The whole time between Thanksgiving and New Year's they hardly ever showed any new ones...
