1. Nobody wants us,
we are tainted by the stink of our "leaders".

So, let's drink instead, and plot of overthrow.

4. A real patriot never gives up on his country.
It's easy to live in a country where freedom is expanding, it takes guts to help change society.

You have to ask yourself: Do you love the Republic? Are you willing to fight to take back your country, or are you going to be like a cowardly Republican who claims to support the Iraqi War, but refuses to enlist?

It's not to late.

Redouble your efforts to plug into the political process, join your fellow Americans on September 24th for the March Against the War in DC and fulfill your patriotic duty to defend America from her enemies.

Your Liberal ancestors faced torture, jail and harassment far worse than you will ever face. Buck up.

Until my country throws me in jail or exiles me, I'm here for the long-haul.

8. I understand completely what you are saying
But even though it was blind luck that led me to move to Canada to be w/ my wife 2 months prior to 9/11, it was probably the best luck (other than meeting her in the first place) that I've ever had.

I love my big, beautiful mess of a country, but right now I don't see anything short of an all-out class-war saving it, because those in power right now will not give it up w/o bloodshed on US soil. And as much as this kills me inside, I think it's inevitable that this happens.

Now that Alabamans are boycotting it, it should be a nicer place.

9. just get on I-29 and go north.
You will have to ask them about a work Visa. Or they might take MasterCard too. Whatever works, but it's cold up there in the great white north. Paris might not be too bad, it is south of Syracuse. I have no idea what their housing or job market is like. It is better though, not to run away from your troubles, but to "take arms against a sea of troubles, and by opposing, end them."

10. To "take arms" in that way is generally frowned upon

If by "take arms" you mean what Hamlet did, it's still somewhat nobler to suffer the slings and arrows than to take arms. Those who "take arms" in the Hamlet sense of the phrase are often insulted as cowards after their demise, while those who simply endure and suffer until natural death are adjudged brave and strong.

11. I see that as a third way, but perhaps I am off base
"taking arms against a sea of troubles" is not another way of describing suicide, but one of the options of life that Hamlet did not like. "To be" means either to "suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune" or to end your troubles by opposing them in battle. That is the sense in which I mean it - battling your troubles.

Perhaps I am misreading that, because it does seem like a side-track to the soliloquy which is considering the question of "to be or not to be" but then again you need to look at your choices because there are a number of ways in which "to be" the main two being passive and active. Otherwise "to take arms against a sea of troubles and by opposing, end them" seems like a convoluted and clumsly way to say "end it all". But Billy is nothing if not convoluted.

And you thought you had an alien POV.
