Steven Spielberg is just a very good director, probably one of the best of all time...
He can tell a story in picture and he set's his shots up so well....
That opening shot of Cruise in the giant container loader was just a marvelous way to segue into the rest of the show...
And they got going right away.....

Wasn't quite as scarry as the Gene Berry 1954 version, but still...
I like that the church was the first building to go vs. the earlier version were the church was the last building standing.....

7. Hollywood seems to always use the same girl... |
|
whenever they need a "little girl in distress".
Man on Fire, Hide and Seek, War of the Worlds.

8. I liked it too, even though I can't stand Tom Cruise |
|
How did Tom Cruise just happen to find the only car in the country that still ran?

I'm sort of anti-Spielberg at times, but he did all right with this one.
Tom Cruise is still an asshole.

Besides, Tom Cruise didn't have to act much... just run around like an idiot, really.
