I'm having self esteem issues, can I get some lounge love?
Edited on Thu Jul-28-05 01:46 AM by Melodybe
I'm currently writing my first screenplay and although I usually don't have self esteem issues, the idea of having to eventually talk to Hollywood executives is getting me nervous.

Other than all the dem work I'm doing, the creative side of me decided to write a screenplay. It's formulaic, it got pirates, corrupt churches, magical crystals, mind control, propoganda, fencing, fighting, true love and you could slap it on a lunchbox. Plus it has a few choice Hitler and Bush quotes and even parts of a Chaplin monologue, but I don't know I'm just starting the thrid and final Act and I'm psyching myself out.

Would you watch this movie?

Plus no DUers have a crush on me and it made me sad :(

1. I'd watch it
I've written and made some stuff, short films etc. If you want some critiquing feel free to pm me and we'll figure something out.

But that's cool that you're writing it. I'm working on a screenplay too, the author gave me permission to adapt it from his novel before he died. :)

6. Cool, that's awesome!

While I am an avid activist, my first love was films. I could make more money if I became a writer. Although I suffer from dyslexia and grammer hates me, I have stories to tell.

Oddly I never even considered writing until I saw the movie Pirates of the Caribean, I just thought to myself there is a better pirate movie out there and then wham the whole story came to me at once, in one big chunk, now I have about ten complete stories littering my brain. As if politics wasn't enough!

I'll be glad to send you the finished product, any critiques would rule.

Congrats on getting the book deal, that just rules!

15. I love film too
I have a video production degree. Directed a music video before too.

Yeah, the book deal was more or less a handshake thing. Nothing official, but I can get the rights and all that pretty easy and everything I'm sure.

Politics has overwhelmed me since 9-11, so I haven't done as much artistic stuff since. :)

8. Well my Aunt has 2 kids with Wes Craven, and her husband is in the music
industry, if anything I'm going to send it to her son Jonathan (Wes' son) and beg that he helps me find an agent.

4. Well, just make sure you have a beginning, a middle and an end... and make
it FUN!

Write it with actors in mind and make the dialogue FUN!

Writing is hard, keep us captivated, is all we ask.

14. Funny that you say that, I considered going into casting during
my first year in college, I was in theatre and casting is a gift of mine. I called Elijah Wood for Frodo when he was about 14 and I told my hubby when we read the book together that Sam would have to be played by someone like Sean Astin. Called Ewan as Obi Wan too, my friends still bitch that I never went into it.

But in reponse to your post, I most definitely have actors in mind! Casting first makes it so much easier to write different characters.

7. My dear Melodybe!
Of COURSE you can have some Lounge love! C'mere, here's a hug and kiss just for you... :* I'm so sorry you didn't get into the thread on who has a crush on you...we tend to respond to people we really know, and if you're mostly not here, then we don't know you as well...I'm really sorry...

It is completely natural to be nervous! These are important people, and they have some control over what happens to your script. Of course you're nervous! I'd sure as heck be nervous as well...

I would certainly watch your movie! Sounds like a lot of fun, IMHO! Now you just come on over here anytime you need us, and if I'm around, I'll help out...

HOpe you feel better now...

:hi:

Here's love.

Creative writing is a tough industry. Most never succeed with their first effort, while commercial success is never necessarily indicative of quality or talent in any case. Write from your heart, write about what you know, write what you'd like to read, then whatever happens, you've already distilled art from your being, the quality of which is constant, not subject to others' evaluation. Chances are there is an audience out there for you, although reaching it can be the biggest logistical challenge in the creative industry. Try not to let that distract you during the creative process.

And one thing from experience: I'm a far better rewriter than a writer. Often I'll write garbage, and only after the 5th editing will it begin to resemble anything like the work I originally intended. Keep the faith and keep writing!

Don't be sad; you don't need a DU crush to validate you, gf. And don't worry about the future beyond finishing Act III. I'd watch it, even if it didn't _have_ a third act.

Here, have a hug: :grouphug:

Although, I just know that executives would turn them into hetero lifemates, while I write it, they are as in love with eachother as 2 side characters can be.

22. Well, I hope that you knock Janeane off her feet, she's a lucky girl
Edited on Thu Jul-28-05 02:48 AM by Melodybe
I do feel much better, so thanks all of y'all. I appreciate the love!

I don't know, I have this inate felling that writing screenplays is my calling, I think it's gonna happen. I hate fakeo Hollywood types, actors annoy the piss out of me, when I wanted to go into casting the idea that I would have to work with them day in and day out made me give up the idea of going into casting. But writing is different, I can do it from home, I can tell the producers who I had in mind when I wrote the screenplay, and it is the most literary of the jobs you can have in Hollywood.

I have this weird picture in my mind of walking into the execs office in a cute, tailored black suit, with a black Johnny cash t-shirt underneath. You know the one where Johnny is giving the finger to the camera. It's just uncanny, it came to me when the whole screenplay idea did.

I figure I have may not have a foot in the door, but I do have a toe that most don't have, so since I have nothing to lose, I might as well give it a shot.

Plus with the crap that they are coming out with now, it looks like Hollywood is having a shortage of fresh writers, so maybe they need me.

Funny Janeane comment. Nearly made me choke on my pizza, haha. :0

Yeah do your thing and give it your best. Most writing in Hollywood has been godawful, so it won't hurt for you to give it a go. Good luck. :)
