Am I missing Thumbthing?

I hate GW just as much as the next dude, but that video of him supposedly flipping off the press, looks oddly like a "thumbs up" instead.

Why do we let ourselves get so caught up in bias that we manufacture garbage like this? We also complain about how the news media reports garbage all the time, and we clamor for this crap? WTF is going on here?

I've looked at that picture about a thousand times now. It's not his middle finger. It's his thumb.

First, you can see where his wrist runs up to his tip of his thumb.

Second, he would have a freakishly short middle finger. That is normally the longest finger on your hand.

Third, try doing it. Your hand and arm have to be bent at a much more severe angle. WHen you twist your wrist to make each respective gesture, you can tell that the position of his arm and wrist in this photo are of his thumb.

Fourth, he would also have one of the narrowest palms in the world. Make a thumbs up. See how narrow your palm looks. Now turn it out and make the other gesture. Your palm widens as you turn your hand.

Here's the picture again. It's his fricken thumb. If I'm a DINO for thinking that than so be it.

...but I love that is out there. Start questioning his moral fiber. It's about time the media starts doing that. Thumb or middle finger, it makes no difference. Figuratively, he's been giving us the finger for over 4 years and it's about time he gets called on it.

Then more power to you. You can't tell WHERE his thumb is in reference to his carpals. Nice posturing though doc.

Here's my diagnosis: Open up your right palm down with all your fingers together pointing out and your thumb pointing to your left. Rotate your hand so that your thumb is pointing straight up in the air. NOw clench your fist, thumb still sticking in the air. See how your fingers curl under and into your palm. THAT'S WHAT YOU SEE. The thumb is sticking up, just like it normally does. It's not MEDIAL to anything. It's just the way the camera is looking at it. If you still don't think so.........squint your eyes. Voila.

Now, doctor, try to make the same gesture with your middle finger. Notice how you have to point your elbow OUT in order to get the correct angle? He's not doing that. Notice how much bigger the width of the top of your hand it when it's facing you? His is not. NOtice how you SEE your thumb on the left side even though your middle finger is the one extended? His is not. Notice how long your middle finger is? His is not.

You have your diagnosis. I have mine. With a pixelated image like this anatomy means about as much as magic. Or did you help Frist diagnose Schiavo from his video too?

View it frame by frame at the critical point - looks like thumb or pointer finger to me.

The still shot definitely looks like the middle, but now that I see the whole thing - I don't agree.

then georgie has a deformed hand that we don't know about. Considering they ran this on Leno and basically said it was georgie flipping off someone, I would go with the people at NBC that let it run without worrying about the consequences. Although I respect your opinion, I am going to say it isn't a thumb.

I went through frame by frame (I can even upload the sequence of pics if anyone would like) and only in one frame (the one that's been posted) does it look like a middle finger.
