My first thread.

I am a little nervous about starting a thread of my own.

I have considered starting a thread on several topics in mind but have been a little worried about what others would say or what kind of reaction I would get.

As you can see starting a thread is a big step for me! :) I hope this thread will help relieve some of that pressure and I can ultimately start threads without worries and be comfortable doing it at the same time.

As you can tell I'm new here and the purpose of this thread is to say hello and get to know all of a little better. The only other time I felt like this was when I transfered schools in Junior High and being away from all my friends and people I've seen on a regular basis, I was surrounded by a bunch of strangers and it took awhile to get comfortable in my new settings. :hi:

The very first forum I went into was General Discussion. I posted a little bit in there but I have seen several threads where they completely went after this one guy, deservingly so as one member did a google search to uncover his BS.

It is seeing the reactions from others that made me a little bit timid but I'm confident I'll adjust.

Just keep posting and people will get used to you. And I wouldn't say anything too controversial until your post count is up a bit, just to avoid suspicion.

But DU is a great place. I tried many other message boards over the years before I found this one and none of them clicked with me. If you're anywhere near DC you should go to the meetup/protest in late September. There's a link about it in my sigline if you'd like info. That'd be a great way to meet some of us!

Another long-time DU'er told me a long time ago that being silly is a Lounge requirement...

Everything everyone has had to say so far has made sense to me, and I hope that it has to you as well...Mostly the Lounge is very friendly; you'll find that some folks post mostly in the morning or afternoons, and some (like myself) are more prone to posting at night. There's a different feeling to the Lounge at night; with fewer posters, we tend to know one another better, and the talk is usually quieter.

Anyhow, you will find, and make a niche for yourself! I hope that you have fun doing so....
