a lot of times they'll preface that with "I thought..." Of course you jump on that with something like "You THINK? I had NO idea. It doesn't show."

I've used stuff like that on occasion. That sort of shit springs from 'The other' attitude the big propaganda machines use to create disharmony. "The Vietnamese don't feel the same way we do" was a big one during Viet Nam. I am guilty of buying into it for the right, but fuck 'em. They are so used to fobbing the left of with that crap. And people less left than me are so use to saying "yes, dear" When my brother dropped that shit on me a couple years back, I shot back with "What make you think I'm a Liberal, you asshole? I look over my right shoulder at Liberals, and they're a small dot on the horizon."
