Look what wandered into my backyard tonight....

I walked out on my deck to give the outside feral kitties some dry food for the evening, and hear this muted "meow" from the side of the house. Just as I was about to walk around and see what it was, this little guy comes trotting up to me and starts SCARFING the food that was out on the plates on the deck. He is terribly friendly, and I'd guess his age is about 5 or 6 months. He is extremely emaciated (although he doesn't look like it in the pics) and dirty. I can feel every one of his ribs and every vertebre in his back.

We brought him inside, and I called the vet to make an appointment for his neutering on Saturday - he'll stay indoors until then so he won't meet any girls in the meantime :) We'll get his shots also and go from there. I guess I should put up some flyers for him, although he's clearly been outside for several weeks without food and I haven't seen any "lost" flyers around...

Anyway, here he is...he's so adorable! Check out his little goatee - I've never seen a kitty marked this way before. I've been calling him Peanut cause he's such a tiny little tyke, but if anyone has any good name ideas, I'm open to suggestions :)

Any responsible owner would have had it done already - I don't even know if he belongs to anyone yet, but he's clearly been outside for many weeks to be this skinny and haven't seen or heard of anyone missing a cat. And the cat doesn't know what's good for him - having an un-neutered cat is not good for the cat, for me (as someone who does rescue), or for the community.

Kitty is being fixed on Saturday, like it or not.

11. We had two tuxedo cats for 15 years, they were the best cats.

Edmun and Kilgore; they were litter-mates - man I sure miss those knuckleheads. They died about three years apart almost 15 years ago. My wife and I still talk about them and miss them.

You could call him Domino or Crossword or...Spot...(sorry)

13. Exact same thing happened to us.

One day this tuxedo kitty shows up. He will not go away. He's friendly but is afraid of the dog so we give him food outside. a few months later we have him fixed and he hides behind out TV for a couple of days then moves back outside.

The dog is old and stops hassling the cat so he slowly starts moving in. A few months before the dog dies he has moved in completely. All of this is over a period of about 18 months.

To make a long story short, Maxwell has been with us for 4 years. He is the friendliest, sweetest cat.

Enjoy your new critter. He found you and has chosen you.

We've enver seen him before, or seen a litter of kittens, so I have no clue where he came from. Unfortunately, living on 12 acres, people tend to "drop off" cats they don't want anymore.

And good for you for having your kitty fixed. Any cat I can get my hands on gets neutered or spayed right away! :) Glad your kitty is still with you - he's lucky to have found you!

17. I would keep every kitten I see, until I remember that they grow up

to be fat lazy good for nothings who won't move out of my favorite chair and who like to lay on my bed at night and take both sides out of the middle, and who get white hairs all over every piece of dark clothing that I own and who turn up their noses at just about any fancy kitty food I buy for them regardless of the price. It would appear that someone has been sneaking into my home and turning my former cute kittens into spoiled brats. And I would stretch out on this couch a little more, but it appears that the last cushion has already been taken up.

Unfortunately, I can't help it. I don't trust anyone else to "re-home" them with - no one takes care of my kitties like I do. Hence, I end up with 7 indoor and 7 outdoor (feral) cats!

Thankfully, I counted him in that 7 indoor cats. My eldest kitty, Buffy, is 20 years old and has lived with us since she was 5 weeks old. She will be going over the Rainbow Bridge anytime now due to health problems.

Is it possible he's been dumped? Occasionally we get "strays" and I think more often than not they have been dumped by some stupid bastard who thinks pets are disposable.

Dumping is so common it's really very sad. I suspect he belonged to someone (or his mother died) since he is so friendly with people. He's either been exposed to them before or never learned the "fear people" thing from his Momma. But we are very observant of animals and have never seen kittens around here before.

Plus, we live on a horse farm, and people think that farms are the perfect place to dump an unwanted pet. Complete assholes.

He's getting fixed Saturday - honestly, I really don't care if he has owners or not I'm going to do it. He's clearly been out without food for weeks now and I've never seen any flyers or anything for a missing kitty.

He is sooo skinny in person, I doubt he would have lasted much more than a week or so without food. He doesn't seem to know how to play either, so I wonder if he doesn't really understand how to hunt - maybe why he's so thin. I suspect he was owned by someone at some time though, probably some moron who just thought he'd dump the cat outside and he'd learn how to find food to eat :eyes:

He's been eating well though, and had fresh water. He goes to the vet Saturday for shots and neutering, so keeping my fingers crossed he's FIV negative!

...my Scooter is a little black and white male who showed up at my door and adopted me a few years ago. I wish you the best of luck with him!

38. lol - we did the same thing with a tuxedo male last November...

he was super sick with an upper resp. infection, so I kept him outside until we could get him to the vet (I was worried it was something awful like feline leukemia and didn't want my indoor babies exposed). We took him (named him Ivan) to the vet's, then had to go on a short business trip. Told the vet that if he was otherwise healthy, neuter him, give him his shots and we'd keep him. And he grew from a 12 lb. cat into a 20 lb. hunka-hunka sweet kitty love.

Then, about two months ago, a tortie nursing momma showed up, we fed her, she brought us her babies (whom we're now trying to find homes for), we had her fixed after she'd weaned her kitties, and now Ivan is in love with Novi (what we've named the tortie, he was attracted to her when she went into heat right before she was spayed, probably having distant memories of his balls and what he used to use them for. But even after she's been fixed, he still loves her); he spends all his time with her and the kittens, protects the kittens, grooms them, etc. He loves them! Even climbed up a tree to get one of the kittens down about a month ago. It's just so heartwarming and cute I can hardly stand it.

Good for you to keep this guy. He's a sweetie pie, and looks much like my Ivan though Ivan's white on his face is a little less symmetrical. There are Friskies treats in the grocery store that have a tuxedo kitty face on them - every time I go into the store I do a double take b/c it looks like Ivan is staring at me.
