22. No, the fault lies with both of us
It was you who ate of it first, sure, but I also offered no questioning nor put up any kind of fight against eating it.

You offered it to me, and I, without a word, just went ahead and ate it, too.

In some ways, I'm more to blame than you are, since at least you considered the morality of it.

knowing full well what you would do... put you in a garden with the temptation knowing that you would eat from it before you did infact eat from it... but yet maintain that you have free will?

its impossible i say! to claim that one sees all and knows all and yet let any have any free will in the universe at all. if one had any true free will would there be anything to see?

not to get all matrix like on ya, but... have we already made all of our choices?

woah man, woah... deep.

"Don't eat that, it's forbidden."

"What's 'forbidden'?"

"It's something you shouldn't do, or there'll be consequences."

"What's 'consequences'?"

"That's where bad things happen, because you did something bad."

"What's 'bad'?"

"Just eat the damn apple."

We were both 14, and she was a bit more....developed than the other girls in school:) We went on a date for bowling and pizza, and I got to kiss her afterwards and man, I thought I was in heaven. Then she dropped me a week later for the resident burn-out/Matt Dillion clone, and it crushed me. I always wondered what ever happened to her..

I keep wanting to believe that where there's life, there's still hope, but why does it have to be so hard? And does real heartbreak ever really go away? From the number and emotional content of these posts, I would guess that the answer is no.;(

36. I think it does go away
But, that pain lingers inside you forever. It may not bother you as much, you may rarely feel it, but it's there, you know what it is like and it haunts you. It's like when a boxer gets knocked cold. The next time they get in the ring they are fully recovered, but they know that a piece of them is gone, and that it could happen again. It eats a part of your soul.

Wow, am I ever dark and melancholy tonight? :)

52. I don't think it ever does go away. It just lies in wait, until you dare
to venture out there again and then... WHAM! And it doesn't matter how long it is; it is forever patient, just biding its time. The next dark night of the soul could be tonight, or in a thousand nights, but it's going to happen again, suddenly hitting you in the solar plexus and sucking out all the air that you breathe. And, yes, each time it does eat away another part of your soul.;(

And yes, you are. But I'm dark and melancholy too. I've been fighting the demons, tonight, and losing.;(

This post helped me, tonight, so you did a good deed. I am hardly the type to live out my life on DU. This is the closest I have gotten, actually too close for my comfort, which gives you a clue into my state of mind. But it's now light out; the night is once again over. So maybe I can finally get a little sleep. Thanks for being there and I'll try to remember what you said, whether I believe it or not.:-)

134. Well, I don't believe it, but thanks.
I really don't believe in much of anything, anymore. Everything that's good and something that you thought that you could count on is ephemeral, gone overnight like the dew on the grass. Nothing good ever lasts and everything evil and that causes pain is eternal.;(

Sorry, but my demons are crowding me, once again.

Whenever the darkness tries to set in, remember that you could hve been born in any of a hundred Aids stricken, drought ridden, grossly injudicial places in this bright beautiful world. Take heart in the fact that you were blessed from day one, are still blessed today, and will die blessed if that is your choice. Yes, it is your choice and your choice alone to be happy or be miserable.

Peace and happiness is a pretty good choice, eh?

137. Thank you. Maybe I should go back to the cemetery.
I used to hang out there pretty frequently. My Dad is there, and it gave me some comfort to be with him. But it also kind of put things in perspective. My life may have gone down the tubes, but I, at least, still have one. I'm at least better off than somebody.:-(

Sorry to have been so emotional, but I just received a hard thrust to the solar plexus from a totally unexpected source, the one in this world that I thought I could trust. I was totally blindsided and am not taking it well. I thought I had lost trust, only to find it again, so to have had hope snatched away is an even harder blow. I'll just go away now, pull my hole in after me. It's safer there, even if I'm alone in the dark. Sorry.;(

Hell I've been there: digging deeper with every breath.

My light was the truth at the top of the hole. The truth that no matter how bad I thought I was, I was still better off than so many more who were worse off than me, yet they could still smile and be happy. I figured, Hey! if they can do it, so can I.

That's when I realized it was just me digging the hole deeper.

just do the best you can while you're here. i don't believe in god or anything, but i think that afterwards you become part of the great cosmos. what could be better than being part of the universe -- as carl sagan said "we are all star stuff."

34. the good one was Lisa, she even e-mailed me today, but.....
I won't mention the other one. I loved her for a good six years or so. Never gave me a chance. I heard she just got married. I always promised myself that the last time I would let my heart be broken by her was the day she was married. I didn't really feel anything. She e-mailed me a few years ago when my book came out, congratulated me on it, etc. That was fine. I can get along ok. But, I haven't seen her in maybe 6 years and I wouldn't mind if I never saw her again. It was that bad. We couldn't really ever get along in person. She shattered me so deeply that I have never fully opened up to a woman. I'm not as likely to be assertive either. I sometimes don't go for what I want because in the back of my mind is the hurt that she hit me with. One of the worst parts of me moving back home is I will probably, well, almost certainly run into her again. I dread it. But, I'm so different now that I doubt it will effect me, not like it used to anyway. The name though, it rhymes with my first name, so there you go.

So was Christi the one that you liked for 2 and a half years and dropped out of school for some other guy? I remember you mentioned that on my one thread from earlier this week.

Speaking of that thread. That woman who I was all broke up about, I sent her an e-mail the other day and she got back to me! Nothing much but it's a start, you know? :)

I hope you guys are wrong and that there is a way to get over that hurt.

You are a sensitive, caring and insightful person--perhaps a better person for having gone through the experience. My grandmother always tells me that if she had a magic wand she would "ping" away the pain. She also says what does not kill you makes you stronger. I hope she is right. And I am still looking for that magic wand.

43. John, both times oddly
I was married to one for nine years. That was the really bad one that took me years to recover from.

The other one was several years ago. We went out for nine months. Odd sort of symmetry there. Anyway, The only reason I think about him is he dumped me in a particularly weaslely bad way.

*Sigh* Sometimes it's very hard to keep trying to find someone who cares for me.

But it's their loss.

About a year and a half after she left, I bumped into her. For the life of me I couldn't remember her name. She caught on after a few minutes of idle chit-chat, and I got to tell her "Sorry, what's your name again?"

What can you say about a man you date long distance for 10 months, who gets you to move, and let's you do all the work finding the new place to move into, gets you pregnant, then lets you "find" a letter that lets you know he is STILL MARRIED? Like I said rough doesn't even come close.

111. I've had so many, it's hard to choose...
So I guess I'll go by decade...

17 -- Jeff, who I dated seriously my junior year of high school. He got me pregnant, than immediately dumped me and started dating someone else. Never spoke to me again after the "I'm pregnant" talk. Never supported me during the pregnancy or when I placed the baby for adoption. He was killed 10 years later in a freak mountain climbing accident, but I didn't find out until about 3 years ago.

26 -- Stan, who after dating me for an entire year, broke up with me because I was 'a fat cow' (his words). Even though I was the exact same size I had been when we started dating. And I wasn't fat, either, just normal-sized. Killed my self-esteem for quite a while.

35-38 -- Gene, my 2nd husband, who, I found out, was a pathological liar, adulterer, and scam artist. Actually found a written 'journal' entry claiming he never loved me and only married me for the security and lifestyle ($$$) I could provide. Haven't had a serious relationship with a man since then, about 8 years ago. Destroyed my trust and made me very wary of getting into another relationship.

44 -- Haven't been in a relationship since my divorce ended when I was 38.

119. Let's see....
Sam....he was hornier than a dog in heat. One of those guys who isn't happy unless he has every female within a 50 mile radius panting after him. Last count he was "dating" about 20 of us at the same time. Sleeping with 19...I was the one who was holding out.

He slept with my "best friend" ,I use that term loosely; and I dumped her, but not him.(Yeah, I know.) I caught him cheating on multiple occasions, but always believed his explanations.(I know) Then he broke up with me and I stopped eating.(I KNOW) I still can't stand to be in the same place as him....that's been over 10 years ago.

Upside: I wrote a paper about him in College. Got to put my anger and loathing into words. Got an A on the paper. :headbang:

Mike and I had a Pretty in Pink thing going on. He was a prep, I was a punk. We had a summer romance, and he dumped me when school began because his friends thought I was a freak.

Emily was the first girl I ever realized I adored. She would play with my hair, lay my head on her shoulder or her lap, and sometimes lead me to believe that something (ANYTHING) was going to happen. I gave her my heart... she thought it was a soccer ball.

And it wasn't by a foul piece of swine, it was by a perfectly OK person who simply decided that I wasn't the right choice for her.

All of the heartbreaks and catastrophes in our lives have lead us to where we are now. And since I love where I am now, I wouldn't change a single second, or ease any of the pain in any way.

I'm going thru something right now that coulda' have been a real heart breaker, but as it is will just tweak it a bit. Nevertheless, any ride to the top, where upon yee fall from, is a ride not to be missed. I'm just sitting here waiting for the next ride up. Get yer ticket here! All aboard!

139. She broke my heart, but I do not consider her a swine...
sometimes one must let things go. She is now in Russia teaching. It's a long story which I will not go into here.

You weren't really all that special. You were just another artist in a SEA of artists in Chapel Hill. That's right, hate to break it to you, and you really weren't all that good. Putting 4 TVs together and painting over them? You're an asshole if you think you're the first person to ever think of that, LOL! Also, I am NOT a mental midget just because I never read "Naked Lunch". Good for you for "getting" Burroughs. I've read Ovid and Aeschylus, so put that in your fancy pipe and smoke it. And that 'zine you did years ago was laughable at best! If only I'd been a little more outree, I'd have kept your love and probably would have wound up living in a cardboard box, so thank god you found some ballet dancer who gets your references! LOL!!!

146. OMG, you just made my entire day.
That was like ten years ago, too. He wasn't a junkie because he was so "enlightened", right? And what 23 year old desperate girl isn't going to fall for that? It was two years, and I spent the next 3 wondering what I'd done. Hehe. I even wrote a "Lars" notebook. Yes, he was a pretentious asshole.

147. I knew guys like that, same age/demeanor/etc
i hung around with the art crowd in my teeny-weeny college town (pop 8,000), and several of the men were like that: all-too-hip, very stylish, but mediocre artists, at best. they were also quite mean to their women too, which i never understood, because they always dated the nicest sweetest people.

the truly talented guys were all slightly socially retarded, fairly normal looking, and exceedingly brilliant. they weren't anti-social but most of their time was spent doing art, or hanging around with people who really loved doing art. they didn't do the bars or social scene-- they were totally at home creating like madmen possessed.

glad you got over Lars. he sounds like a real jerk.

:loveya:

(ps check yr PMs later, i'm sending you something) :)

150. Thank you- he was what I would call "fey"-
a little beyond the pale, and totally on purpose. I took to that chicken-scratching and believed that he knew what he was talking about simply because I didn't understand him at times. He made for a great eavesdropping partner, though. I would incorporate some of what we overheard into my writing. I appreciated his appreciation until the day it disappeared.
