Converse All-Stars- ever owned a pair?
I had to drop off Cathyclysmic's car at the auto mechanic today. I passed a shoe store on the way back, and noticed that they're trotting out the old All-Stars again. It seems they never go out of style. How many pairs of "Chucks" have you owned? What style and color?

I had several pairs of the basic black hi-tops, a pair of white hi-tops, blue low-tops, and a pair of Chuck Taylor All-Star Classics that were pretty awesome- black with all-black soles, toes, and logo.

2. Owned about fifteen pairs over the years
I used to caddy as a kid and they were the cheapest shoes I could get (shoes would last about two months). I just kept buying them because they were cheap and other shoes just looked ugly.

yep, black hi-tops were my latest
I wore them into my 30's and damn but they were some crappy arch support, but I loved them all the same.

In a store in Alamo Heights, ritzy section of San Antonio, I had a snotty old thing tell me I was too old for them. Ha.

I told her young once, immature forever.

9. I owned a pair of yellow high tops
back in the late 80s, but I learned something really important.

When you are a chick and have size 9 feet, so you keep tripping over your own shoes and kissing pavement, this is NOT a good look for you!

12. I've had TONS.
Back in the '80s when they were ten bucks a pair, I had 'em in an astonishing array of colors, including camouflage. But the black ones always looked the best. I currently own none, as $45 for a basic canvas sneaker is fucking larceny. For not much more money, I could go to the skate-shop and get a pair of Vans that would take *way* longer to fall apart.

That's an eon in shoe time, especially since I usually wear only one pair until they fall apart.

15. My first pair were red high tops in 1983.......
They lasted a year or so and then I switched to white high tops. Another year and then around '85 I made the permanent switch to black high tops and have probably owned 10-15 pairs in the 20 years since.

26. Yep!
Our basketball shoe in high school was exactly that shoe. Freshman year we still wore the old Chuck Taylors. But, we went low cut, brown suede in sophomore and junior year. (I left HS after 3 years to go to college, so i don't know what they wore the next year.)

My all-time favorite shoes for ball, though, were either my Adidas Italias (the white ones with the green stripes) or my Onizuka Tigers. (Onizuka adopted a more "american" sounding name in the 80's. I forget which one. New Balance?)

I knew they changed the name. Those were really good basketball shoes. Played in an industrial league after college with those shoes for 3 years. Same shoes. Three times a week. 3 years! That's a good athletic shoe.

33. They were the only shoes I wore as a kid.
I remember my mom asking "Black or white?", "low or high?", "what size?"
Before she would go to buy my brother and I shoes.
I didn't even realize there were other choices til I was old enough to buy my own.
