I'm going to sit back this afternoon, have a martini and enjoy one of the great debanoirs.

3. All the THIN MAN movies
were shown in a row the other evening on TCM! Simply the best channel for uninterrupted classic movies ever! Powell is from KC & so am I... that makes us practically identical! :) The perfect suave yet unpretentious male lead!

4. I adore him! I taped the Thin Man marathon the other night.
They did all six, but in reverse order. Awesome. I want to be Myrna Loy when I grow up!

12. Oh, I thought I was the only one that had those.
Ray Milland, Jimmy Stewart and Gregory Peck top my list.

6. William Powell, sadly, was an arch conservative
He despised FDR and the New Deal.

That's too bad too because I do like his movies.

16. I had thought Powell was apolitical or moderate.
:-( I've seen the HUAC footage of Adolph Menjou, who was a snotty, smug right-winger, and also of Gary Cooper, but I didn't know about Powell being right-wing.

By the way, Myrna Loy was apparently an ardent Democrat. :loveya: At least that's what it says at this site.

13. He only stopped drinking because he was visiting his parents.
The alcohol humor was still there though. :)

15. That's true
They really should have stopped making them after the first 3, but I'll watch all of them any day of the week..
